Club de Español

Club de Español. Monday 31st March

Last Monday, the students at Spanish Club learned about trencadís, a fun and creative way to make mosaics.

Antoni Gaudí was a Catalan architect and designer. Many of them may recognize some of his most famous works, such as Park Güell, Casa Milà, Casa Batlló, and the unfinished Sagrada Familia.

Instead of using regular-shaped pieces, Gaudí’s trencadís technique uses broken tiles, ceramics, and glass to create organic forms.

The students got hands-on (¡manos a la obra!) and created their own masterpieces using this sustainable and creative technique with pieces of plates and ceramics. Some of the Spanish Club members confessed that smashing plates in preparation was a great way to relieve stress! For others, incorporating old broken jewelry was a meaningful way to display a piece of their grandmother’s inheritance. 😝

This Monday 31st is our last Spanish Club session of the term! Elkin will be leading the workshop "Una experiencia electrizante." Students will work with bulbs, electric circuits, and more—all in a very safe environment, of course.

We invite all students to join Club de Español! It’s a fantastic opportunity to continue learning Spanish while engaging in hands-on experiences.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to once again thank Veni, Marta, Nicole, Elkin, Catherine, Alberto, and Nerida for making this club such a fantastic and successful experience.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
