Around the College

FIRE Carrier Ceremony

Fire is central to Australian Aboriginal culture. In the circle around the campfire people told, sang or danced stories of law and customs teaching them to live their lives in order and harmony with all creation.

FIRE Carriers are students and teachers who are committed to promoting reconciliation and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider school community. FIRE stands for ‘Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education’.

To be a FIRE carrier requires strength and courage.

As a FIRE carrier you are called to carry on the story.

Our FIRE Carrier’s spoke…as FIRE carriers we have made strong foundations in our school community to build respect, understanding and knowledge of our shared story that started in this rich land 60,000 years ago and continues today at St Anne’s College.

Michael Chisholm presented the FIRE Carriers with their badges from Neil Cooper, and our FIRE Carriers cleansed their bodies in the smoke from the fire Billy Cooper made.

In Australian Aboriginal culture smoke from burning native plants is used to cleanse and purify individuals and spaces, believed to ward off bad spirits and promote well-being.

Michael asked that our new FIRE carriers stand tall to be the living frames that will light the fire of reconciliation, of true justice, love, compassion and hope for the world today. May they wear their badge with pride as an outward sign as friends inviting reconciliation through education at our school.

Discovery Sessions and Tours

We enjoyed hosting some little ones and their families at our Pre-Primary Discovery Session earlier this week. There were lots of happy faces while children enjoyed themselves exploring some fun activities set up in our garden area. We have hosted many Discovery Sessions over the last month and we have one more Discovery Session on the calendar for Year 5&6, to be held on May 12.

It’s the perfect chance to ask questions, participate in engaging activities and soak up our vibrant school environment.

Students participate in Anzac Day services

Our College Captains Alick and Liliana represented St Anne's College along with Principal Anthony Butts at the Shepparton Cenotaph for the Anzac Day service. The captains laid a wreath to pay their respects to those who have served. Congratulations to the captains for demonstrating our values through their continued amazing representation of St Anne's College.

Year 11 student Lilian Richardson (third from left) also took part in the Shepparton Service, representing and laying a wreath for Wendy Lovell, due to her being in Gallipoli. Lilian does this every year as Wendy must attend other Anzac Day ceremonies.

Year 6 students Charlotte Merkel and Jemma Daldy led the Anzac Day Parade in Euroa, being the flag bearers for the parade as well as at the service. The pair were representing Girl Guides and did an amazing job. It was Charlotte's fourth Anzac parade with Guides and Jemma's second.

Can you help with materials?

In Term 2 the Foundation students will be having a workshop with Clancy Lester as part of their inquiry learning.

Clancy has asked for a call out for some materials to help with the workshop.

Please see the list of materials on the graphic. We appreciate your assistance.
