Middle School Term 1: Building a Stronger Community

As we settle into another exciting year in Middle School, it has been wonderful to witness the vibrant energy and enthusiasm of our students and staff. Term 1 has been filled with opportunities for connection, growth, and celebration, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines our school.

One of the highlights of the term was our inaugural Lantern Festival, the start of a beautiful tradition that brought students, staff, and families together in a glowing celebration of culture and unity. The evening was highlighted by student presentations reflecting their deep connection with our Quaker values and a strong sense of positively and actively contributing to an inclusive Middle School community.

Parents and guardians have also had the opportunity to engage with our school through the Meet the Key Teacher Evening. This event was an invaluable opportunity for families to build relationships with the educators who support their children’s learning journey throughout the year. Strong communication and collaboration between home and school are essential, and we are grateful to all who attended and contributed to meaningful discussions.

The Middle School is very excited to be working with the Primary School on the Years 5-8 Musical, Matilda JR. The hard work of students in rehearsals is testament to their passion and dedication. Working together with an equally dedicated staff team, the performance is set to showcase not only significant artistic talents but also a commitment to teamwork and perseverance. It is inspiring to see students from across year levels working together to bring such a wonderful production to life.

Beyond the classroom, our co-curricular activities have been in full swing. The Head of the River culmination to the rowing season had strong participation from our Middle School rowers who have trained hard over the year to compete with great sportsmanship and determination. Our Middle School students also participate strongly in a range of other activities, including soccer, chess, various music ensembles, Maker’s Club, Mountain Bike Club, Service Committee and Climate Action group, just to name a few. Co-curricular participation is such a good way to broaden friendships, build new skills and support good physical and emotional wellbeing. We encourage all students to participate in a range of offerings throughout the year.

Finally, we continue to foster meaningful connected learning through our Year 7 & 8 Connections Program, which has included Quaker Day celebrations in Year 7 and the exploration of Indigenous Perspectives in Year 8. These initiatives encourage our students to engage deeply with values of peace, justice, and cultural understanding.

As we move forward into the year, we look forward to building on this strong foundation, continuing to learn, grow, and celebrate together. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making Term 1 such a success - we are excited for all that lies ahead!
