Significant Events

Ciao a tutti!
We are once again extremely fortunate to host an Italian Assistant this year.
Meet Emmanuel, who will be working with all of our students of Italian, providing authentic language and cultural learning experiences:
Hello everyone!
I'm Emmanuel Longo, I'm 25 years old and I come from Paola, a small town in Southern Italy, even though I recently graduated from Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
I'm beyond enthusiastic to be your assistant and to give you a glimpse into Italian culture from a local's perspective. Exploring new places, diving into great films, and walking in nature are some of my favorite ways to spend time.
I hope my friendly and patient personality will help you discover new things about the Italian culture in a fun and engaging way.
Can't wait to meet you all! See you soon.
Emmanuel
Outstanding Staff Achievements
We are proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of our staff, who continue to grow as educators and leaders:
- Scarlett Reeves-Smyth and Mohammad Idris have recently been accepted into prestigious department PD programs, reflecting their dedication to continuous improvement and best practice in teaching.
- Tony Leung has successfully completed the Teacher Excellence Program, a significant accomplishment that speaks to his commitment to high-quality teaching and leadership.
These achievements not only benefit the individual educators but also enhance the learning experience for all students at our college. We are proud of our staff who model lifelong learning and excellence in education.
Together—students, staff, families, and local businesses—we are building a strong, connected, and future-focused school community.
Athletics Carnival – A Day of Colour, Competition and Community
One of the true highlights of Term 2 was the Doncaster Secondary College Athletics Carnival—and what a day it was! From the moment students arrived in their boldest house colours to the final race of the day, the energy was electric and the school spirit was unmatched.
We were thrilled to see such incredible attendance across all year levels, with students not only competing in a wide variety of track and field events, but also cheering, dancing, laughing and getting involved in every way possible. The house pride was on full display as students went all out with costumes, face paint, chants and banners, creating an atmosphere that was nothing short of spectacular.
Whether it was sprinting down the 100m track, giving it their all in the high jump, or taking part in the iconic tug-of-war and novelty events, every student contributed to the joy and success of the day. These moments are what make the Athletics Carnival so memorable—it’s about participation, community, and having fun together as a school.
A huge congratulations to all students for making the event such a positive, inclusive, and exciting experience. It was wonderful to witness students challenging themselves, encouraging each other, and representing their houses with pride.
Thank you to all the staff and student leaders who helped make the day run smoothly, and to every person who brought the vibes, colour and enthusiasm that truly define the Doncaster SC Athletics Carnival. We can’t wait to do it all again next year—but for now, hold onto the memories and that unbeatable house spirit!

Inspiring Girls Australia
Last week, we explored a big question: What makes great leadership?
7 amazing role models joined the module and shared their leadership experiences: Siobhan C., Shekila Ramalingam, Mukti Prabhu, Kiran G Bhullar, Helen Merry, Tatiana Angulo, Bas Ebaid.
The girls reflected on the qualities that matter most — courage, compassion, communication — and checked in on how they’re growing into the kind of leaders they want to be.
The girls walked away inspired, curious, and reminded that they can be whoever they want to be — and more.
Celebrating IDAHOBIT at Doncaster Secondary College
Last week, Doncaster Secondary College proudly celebrated IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia.
This important day is a chance for our community to stand together in support of LGBTQIA+ inclusion and to reaffirm our commitment to respect, safety, and equality for all.
During recess, the College Quadrangle came to life with a vibrant IDAHOBIT stall.
Students and staff were invited to engage in a range of activities and resources, including colouring sheets and the chance to take home pride pins, stickers, and flags. Resources from Headspace were also made available, providing helpful information about mental health and support services for young people.
Thank you to all who took part in creating such a welcoming and inclusive space. Events like IDAHOBIT remind us that we all have a role to play in creating a school environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and seen — exactly as they are.
Student Parliament Day
On Thursday the 21st of May, students from our various clubs, comittees and leadership teams were able to meet together for Student Parliament. This was a fantastic day of collaboration and problem-solving important issues to the student body. It was great to see students from all year levels work together so seamlessly.
As part of the day we welcomed Andrew Conlon from Manningham Council to come in to formally open parliament.
Both myself and Mr. Pfitzner were so impressed by the student's ability to hold formal discussion and provide a forum for students to share their own perspective.
We look forward to working with the college's student leaders to enact on the ideas and plans that emerged from Student Parliament, thank you to all students involved!
