The Table Talk Project
The Table Talk Project is a transformative initiative designed to strengthen family bonds through meaningful conversations around the dinner table. Recognising the challenges of modern life, where busy schedules often hinder deep connections, this program encourages families to set aside dedicated time each week to engage in open dialogue.
The Table Talk Project follows the same model as our Conversation Menu’s and provides families and young people with a clear and structured process for engaging in topical and sometime difficult conversations.
Structured like a three-course meal, the program begins with the "Entrée," focusing on meal preparation and setting the stage for connection. The "Main" course involves engaging in thoughtful discussions, facilitated by conversation starters provided by the project. Finally, the "Dessert" offers a moment for reflection, ensuring everyone feels heard and valued.
Beyond individual family interactions, The Table Talk Project offers a comprehensive 10-week program for groups of 10–15 families. This journey includes weekly activities and three shared dinners, fostering a sense of community and shared growth. Participants report enhanced communication, deeper empathy, and improved mental well-being as key outcomes of the program.
For families seeking to reconnect and cultivate a culture of open communication, The Table Talk Project provides accessible resources and a supportive framework. By prioritising intentional conversations, families can navigate challenges together and build lasting, meaningful relationships. We have included a Conversation Menu that we have developed right here at DSC, that reflects the kinds of resources that you will also find through the Table Talk project and we strongly encourage our families to have a look at their site to find subjects or topics that are most relevant for discussion in your own home.
