Italian Immersion Program

8G has had an exciting start to the year and to their Italian Immersion journey, with a range of engaging experiences and activities, many of which have been focused on Italy’s greatest passion: il cibo (food).
Drawing on the expertise of our own staff, Mr Tosi and Mr Ricciardi organised a cooking masterclass for the Year 8s during which they prepared pasta con tonno (pasta with tuna).
“The pasta was really good, cooking it with my friends was really fun, and especially when we ate it all in the art room. Overall, it was a really fun experience!” - Hector Shea, 8G
More recently, Mrs Borg and Mrs Florio accompanied the class on an excursion to AriPizza e Pinsa in Preston where students learned more about authentic Italian cuisine, and met the owners of the family-run business who migrated to Australia from Italy.
“Our class took a bus to the pizza place and sat down in group sizes from 3-4. Then we did a worksheet about immigration in Europe, mainly Italy, while we waited for our turn to make some pizza. Each group made 2 pizzas each and got to put the toppings on themselves. It was great! I loaded mine up with lots of sauce, cheese, and prosciutto. Then we sat back down and waited for them to be cooked by the chef and served up for us to eat. I really enjoyed going on this excursion!” - Hayden McAuley-Hiho, 8G
Charlie and Esme gave both the pizza and the service 5 stars out of 5, reflecting just how amazing everything was on the day. They also highlighted how these experiences are helping them to build a sense of community within their class.
“We really liked the pizza and thought it was really cool how we got to choose all the toppings. This was a great experience and the staff were really lovely and welcoming! It was also fun bonding with our class on the bus.” - Esme House & Charlie Polglase, 8G
