Nude Food - coming in term 2

Dear Families,

In Term Two we are re-introducing Nude Food days on Tuesdays as a part of what 3/4CF did in Community Inquiry in 2024. Some other students (Violet, Hazel, Sage) made a policy that Newlands must try to be litter-free in lots of ways, including having nude food days.

What is Nude Food?

Nude food is a lunchbox that has nothing that will be thrown into the red bin (Landfill).

Example: A banana is nude food as well as a sandwich in a re-useable container. Paper bags are acceptable because they can go into the compost clean or dirty they can also be put in the recycle bin if they are clean.

Food in plastic containers counts as nude food, as long as they will be taken home, washed, and reused.

See the photos below for some ideas.

Seems hard?

We understand if nude food does not work for your family and that everyone's doing the best they can. We are going to create some tips with simple swaps (ideas on what to replace packaged items with) and other lunch ideas, and we are going to try to get donations of reusable containers for families that need them.

Can you help?

If you have any reusable containers and lunchboxes that you don't need, please donate them to us! Leave them in the office for Nerida and we will help to distribute them.
