LIBRARY NEWS!

We have completed our first term in our little library! I have really loved my days in here talking books with kids, planning, thinking and researching. Many new books have been sourced, many meters of contact has been smoothed over covers (thanks to the families who helped me with this). I have been really heartened by the families who have reached out to relay that their child is finding comfort and happiness in visiting the library.

Our preppies are really enjoying the space and have borrowed the greatest number of books of all the grades (despite a two-book borrowing limit)! Spiro by local author Anna McGregor is our most popular picture book and for good reason--it's gorgeous.

Raina Telgemeier’s Smile was our most borrowed book. Graphic novels are the overwhelming favourite amongst students. Kaya Miller’s Clash, Baby Sitters Club, Dog Man and the Telgemeier series are on high rotation.

Headstrong Harriet Manners proved that different is not less! Geek Girl by Holly Smale was our most popular novel.

This term's borrowing heroes are:

Prep: Albert & Ruby

Grade 1: Beatrix & Sevy

Grade 2: Aren & Carolina & Violet

Grade 3: Daniel & Edi

Grade 4: Leyla, Lily & Isaach

Grade 5: Nancy & Djuna

Grade 6: Nelly

Special thanks to Taylor, Molly, Austin, Luna, Carolina, June and Ella for helping out and showing such initiative and generosity.

I’m looking  forward to next term! We will be celebrating IDAHOBIT day and reconciliation week (which will tie in nicely with the inquiry unit of Indigenous perspectives).

Log into Story Box Library over the holidays for some reading fun. I have made a playlist of some of Newlands' most borrowed books.

Happy holidays everyone!
