Curriculum Matters

Foundation

On Friday, 28th March, the Foundation students had a wonderful time at our Teddy Bear Picnic!

They enjoyed playing with the equipment, hosting a delicious tea party for their teddies, having fun with the parachute, and making memories with their friends!

We are so incredibly proud of each student and how much they have achieved in their first term at school!

Level 1

One of the highlights was our exciting Easter Egg Hunt with our Level 6 buddies. The students had a fantastic time searching for eggs and proudly carrying them in the special baskets they made.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season together!

In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on measuring by using measuring tapes to find objects around the classroom that were within certain lengths. The students loved this hands-on challenge and became measuring experts!

Another exciting activity was our Easter Maths Mystery, where students put on their detective hats to solve the case of “Who Stole the Easter Bunny’s Eggs?” Every day, they worked through clues, sharpening their problem-solving skills while having loads of fun.

We are so proud of all their hard work this term and hope everyone has a wonderful and restful holiday break! 🐰🌸💛

Level 2

This week in our classroom, our young explorers have been learning all about maps, cardinal directions, and coordinates!

To put their new skills into action, students created their very own Treasure Islands, complete with hidden treasures and exciting pathways.

Using North, East, South, and West, they wrote step-by-step directions from the starting point “X” to their hidden treasure. Their maps included landmarks, obstacles, and creative designs that made the treasure hunt even more thrilling!

This hands-on activity helped students understand how to read and follow directions, improve spatial awareness, and think critically about how maps work.

It was wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork in action!

Level 3

Level 3 have had a big and rewarding first term.

We completed our very first NAPLAN and we smashed it!

Level 3 got to celebrate all their hard work with a NAPLAN party. We got to walk down to the local park and indulge in some of our favourite foods. It was so much fun and the best way to celebrate completing our first NAPLAN.

Level 3 have also been growing beans as part of our Inquiry topic, life cycles.

There have been some very successful beans that have sprouted so high and some that might have needed some more love. We have really enjoyed watching them grow and taking good care of them

Level 4

On Wednesday 26th March, Level 4 students had African drumming on an incursion.

This linked to our Inquiry Topic on the Southern Hemisphere. The students learnt about Djembe Drums. They learnt about some of the African cultures working in a team and leant 3 styles of drumming. The students were able to make up their own beat and perform to the class.

Students have also been presenting their Inquiry presentations on the Southern Hemisphere. It has been fantastic to see the wide variety of topics and ways they shared their information.

Level 5

Buddies Celebrate Easter Together!

The Easter Bunny snuck into our school this week and hid eggs in the playground! Foundation and Level 5 students joined forces for a fun Easter egg hunt strengthening friendships, promoting teamwork and creating wonderful memories!

Our buddy system continues to foster kindness and connection across year levels.

Level 6

Egg Drop

Egg Drop was a massive success!

Students have worked so hard this term planning and creating egg contraptions and egg sceneries as well as creating egg profiles, writing a Biography and finally throwing their eggs over the volleyball net. Students did an amazing job creating their contraptions to be thrown over the volleyball net.

It was also amazing watching all the splats!

Grass Head Summary

Have you noticed some Level 6 students carrying around little cups of grass lately?

Well, that’s because of the Egg Drop.

Many of you probably know what this prestigious event is, for it has been held at this school for many years. However, due to rising egg prices, we cannot afford the eggs that we used in the past. So, the teachers have come up with an amazing alternative.

Grassheads! Grassheads are little cups of dirt with grass seeds in them, which you take care of. This not only has been fun for the Level 6 students but also helps keep the environment healthy by not wasting eggs and instead, finding a fun alternative that works! I have some personal experience with Grassheads since I have been growing one as well. On day 1, he was just a cup with dirt in it but on Day 4, the first blades of grass emerged from the soil. After a week, he had grown quite a lot of tall, thin grass. It’s quite fun to watch your Grasshead grow over time.

Owning a Grasshead has also taught me responsibility as well. You must remember to water it, and to put it in the sun and not to forget to bring it to school!

Overall, the Grassheads have been a fun alternative to the eggs we used to use. They also allow you to be more creative, as bonus points are up for grabs for decoration!

The Grassheads are fun, environment-friendly and quite challenging to care for, therefore making it the perfect alternative for eggs.

Buddy Egg Hunt

Level 6 students met up with their buddies and had an Easter Egg Hunt on the junior playground! The Level 1 student did an amazing job helping their buddies find their chocolate eggs.

The students even got to eat a few eggs as well!
