My Lord and My God

This week our school community and the Australian community have reflected on the joy Easter message of salvation and the importance of sacrifice within both the Easter story and the ANZAC day reflection which identifies a critical moment in a distant war 110 years ago that helped shape our National identity.

Tomorrow morning, two of our Year 6 students will be representing our school at the Cranbourne cenotaph. At 10:30am, they will lay a wreath on behalf of our school, ahead of the ANZAC Day service which begins at 11:00am. We are proud of their involvement in honouring the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. All families are welcome to attend.

The news of Pope Francis' passing allowed us to grieve, celebrate and ultimately reflect on our Catholic identity - as a school and also as a Catholic community. The depth of feeling about the passing of a Pope who worked tirelessly to encourage the Church to not only open the doors of the church buildings but to come out into the community and in his words 'smell like the sheep'.

Pope Francis always exhorted us to be active, to be part of the life and to live the message of Jesus of love and salvation in the ways that we wok with those around us. Tonight there is a Parish Mass at 7pm to celebrate the life of Pope Francis and to collectively pray for his eternal soul.

During the mourning period and through the conclave and installation of a new Pope our staff and students will reflect on Pope Francis, his life and his direction for the Church today. We will consider the importance of the conclave and look forward to their decision about the new pontif best suited to the needs fo the Church today.

Thank you to all the parents and students who welcomed me back from my long service leave holiday in the USA. My husband Alan and I were fortunate enough to travel by road through 14 states and see many amazing sights and wonderful wildlife (we are keen birdwatchers). From the wolves playing and hunting in snow in Yellowstone National Park to the alligators in the cypress swamps of Louisiana the cycle of new life was played out in front of us daily.
