Captains' Corner

Primary School Sports Captains' Message
Ava Lawrence, Lia Lee, Darwin Aziz, Alfie Catalano
This year is looking to be an exciting year for Andrews Cup, Britton Shield and Clayfield Sport. As the Clayfield Primary Sports Captains, we are really excited to play, learn and
grow the Sports Programs across the Primary School.
Already this year, we have achieved a lot of great success in our swimming season and we are so proud of our fellow students, you all did so well and tried your best! Our boy swimmers came home from Brisbane Boys' College with the Britton Shield Swimming trophy, after beating Ipswich Junior Grammar School and newcomers to the competition, Brisbane Boys' College. Ipswich and Brisbane Boys' College were strong competitors, but the Clayfield boys held their own across all strokes.
Unfortunately, due to Cyclone Alfred, the Britton Shield Touch Football competition had to be postponed. We are hoping that this can be rescheduled so the boys can showcase their impressive skills and our Clayfield spirit!
Last week, the Andrews Cup Swimmers took to the Sleeman Centre and demonstrated strong ability, skill and resilience across the entire day. We achieved an outstanding result, finishing 5th overall and were convincing winners of the Percentage Trophy! A special mention to Coach Cam, Ms Cattanach and the entire swimming staff who supported, coached, and encouraged us throughout the swimming season!
Looking ahead, the sports available in Term 2 are:
Britton Shield
- Cross Country
- Football
Andrews Cup
- Cross Country
- Netball
- Football
We are looking forward to launching and running the first Clayfield College Interhouse Handball Competition next term! Students have been asked to sign up on the registration sheets in their classrooms. We will be writing up a set of rules and guidelines for the Interhouse Handball Competition and we will facilitate the competition during morning tea and lunch breaks starting in Week 3 of Term 2.
We can't wait to see many Primary School students embrace all the opportunities to participate in sport throughout Term 2!
Cross Country Leaders' Message
Eleanor Myers and Molly Lillecrapp
The 2025 Cross Country season has officially begun! We are both beyond excited to kick things off as Captains! With training sessions now in full swing, it’s been fantastic to see so many runners committed to improving their fitness, endurance, and race strategies. The early morning training sessions are already paying off, and we can’t wait to see how everyone progresses throughout the season.
This week, we also had our much-anticipated Interhouse Cross Country Competition on Tuesday, and what an incredible day it was! The atmosphere was electric, with students from all Houses giving it their all and pushing themselves to their limits. All of the students ran exceptionally well, showing true determination and sportsmanship with one another.
Whether it was seasoned runners aiming for a top finish or students stepping out of their comfort zones to challenge themselves, everyone played a part in making the day so enjoyable, fun and a huge success. We’re all eagerly awaiting the final results to see which House will take the title!
With QGSSSA Cross Country coming up, training is more important than ever, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone continue to push themselves. We encourage all runners to stay motivated, keep putting in the effort, and most importantly, enjoy the process. The season is shaping up to be an exciting one, and we can’t wait to see what Clayfield Cross Country can achieve on race day!
Well done and let’s keep running strong!
