From the Principal's Desk

I have indicated throughout this term, on multiple occasions, that the start to this year has been the best I have experienced since I arrived in 2020. Our new students have settled very quickly with limited fuss. Our continuing Year 12s and experienced IEC students have been quick to take up the challenges of their final year’s studies. Fremantle Fast Track has had an influx of students who have settled into their bespoke learning environment and are becoming more engaged and familiar with their unique day-to-day processes.
New staff always bring fresh eyes to the Campus and this year is no exception. Michelle Reeves in Art, Vikki Moulton in Home Economics and Ruth Smith in English have all settled into their roles and are developing strong relationships with students and staff. The opportunities on offer in our practical courses have started to impact future planning, especially with Michelle in the Arts area and Vikki in Hospitality. We can’t wait to see these opportunities develop.
As the holidays loom, students need to take the time to relax and recharge, as do the staff. We have a long year ahead and the challenges get more substantial as expectations rise and the year progresses.
Meet and Greet
Starting the year off by building strong connections with our students' parents and carers was a high priority this year. This was achieved through the Meet and Greet on February 19. The event was relaxed, open and approachable, and those in attendance met their child's teachers over a drink and bbq sandwich. Feedback was unanimously positive and we will continue the meet and greet in 2026.
Fremantle Fast Track also held their Meet and Greet on Tuesday February 25, and again this early event provided a great opportunity for staff, parents and students to meet and discuss how the year had started. We value our relationships with parents and carers and hope to see more opportunities in future to work closely in partnership to support the learning outcomes of our students.
ANZAC Commemoration
It is a feature of our calendar to commemorate ANZAC Day with a ceremony that is organised by our Student Councillors. A team effort behind the scenes included our Chaplain Elijah and teacher Anna Watters. This ensured a rich and meaningful recognition of the service and sacrifice of Australians over the many conflicts the world has seen.
Final Infrastructure Report
Unfortunately, the last meeting I had in December reinforced that the Campus is not a priority for attention at anytime soon. The electrical situation, the major problem associated with the closing of our canteen, was again discussed but without success. The canteen is 50 years old and in the words of the Infrastructure Division of the Department “adequate for this school today”. Similarly, whilst embarrassed by the external spaces north of our buildings, there is no plan to prioritise NLSC in the foreseeable future. There has been no traction with any members or Ministers of parliament. Strategies beyond this point will have to be discussed and considered. Perhaps a visit by the Premier needs to be explored?
