Year 9 Goes Behind the Scenes with Reality TV Filmmaker PJ Madam
Last Thursday in English, the Year 9 cohort was fortunate to have Peta-Jane Madam as a guest speaker to accompany our unit on Reality Television. PJ is the co-founder and director of Wildman Films. She shared her insights with us about the creation and editing of Reality Television, her experiences both working in and being part of this field, and both the opportunities and downsides to her career. By sharing personal anecdotes and incorporating clips from shows she has worked on, Year 9 received an understanding of the manufacturing and harsh realities of working in Reality Television and will continue to assist us by expanding our knowledge as we continue throughout the unit.

Rolling Up Sleeves and Reaching Out: Service Learning in Action
Years 9 and 10 students who have chosen the Service Learning elective have discovered this year that it is a meaningful way for them to connect learning with real-world impact. Throughout this term, the students have shown exactly what it means to welcome in, reach out, and make a difference.
At Foodbank Tasmania, the girls jumped straight into action, sorting groceries and packing fresh produce for those in need. Their enthusiasm was unmistakable as they rolled up their sleeves and worked together on a mountain of lettuces. Their teamwork captured the true spirit of service.
The learning continued beyond the warehouse as the class ventured to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, they had the chance to deepen their understanding of Tasmania’s native wildlife. From wombats to echidnas, the students were captivated as the Bonorong Ranger shared stories and insights about the animals in their care. It was a hands-on lesson in compassion, stewardship, and the role we all play in protecting creation.
The Service Learning course is designed for students who want to make a meaningful contribution to the world - those who value connection, compassion, and community. Whether serving people, learning from new experiences, or participating in outreach, students are encouraged not only to act, but also to reflect. This reflection is central to Christian service learning, helping students grow in empathy, humility, and understanding.
