SAKG News

We are making Pizza of the Imagination again in kitchen, one of our favourite rotations and a great way to start winding down for the year. There are a couple of rules that must be kept, students have to use at least one garden ingredient and at least 5 ingredients in total, which gives them an opportunity to consider how flavours will work together, to try something new next to familiar flavours and for some students the opportunity to get a bit creative with their inventions. It is fun to hear the classes talking about what they would call their original pizza combinations if they opened a pizza store. It is delightful watching them make faces and shapes on their dough and the best part of all is watching them share and prepare the ingredients before sitting together to eat it. The dough recipe is an easy one from Jamie Oliver's website:
1kg flour
2 tsp salt
4 tsp yeast
4 tsp sugar
640ml warm water
2 glugs of olive oil.
Kate mixes the sugar and yeast with the water and lets it sit until it is frothy, then mixes that into the flour and salt mixture and add the olive oil. If you have a stand mixer you can do this quickly or you can mix and knead it by hand. Once the dough is smooth cover it and let it sit for about half an hour. Then roll it out into a few small pizzas or a couple of big ones and have fun with toppings of your choice.
It's so hard to believe that end of year is fast approaching. Given that, over the next couple of days, the eldest sibling of each family will have come home with a raffle ticket sheet for our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Christmas Raffle. All money raised will go towards creating a community herb garden of which will be maintained by our senior students. Prizes to won include: vouchers to the MCG Sports Museum, Ballarat Wild Life Park, Kryal Castle, Showbiz, Regent Cinemas, Xtreme Bounce, Flip out, Ballarat Ninjas, Ballarat Aquatic Centre, Western Hotel, Lakeview Hotel, The North Star, Rebel, Pet Stock, Avalon Nursery, along with a cordless drill, carwash kit, Lemon tree, Olive tree, indoor plant with a pot, board games, puzzles, photo frames, jewellery making kit, headphone/earbuds, toiletry bag, coffee mug, fishing rods and tackle boxes, stationary, and a beautifully crafted quilt and a spectacular Christmas cake with a Ginger Bread House, both made by two of our lovely kitchen volunteers - Dot and Dawn. Also, we are having a SAKG Stall after school, Tuesday and Thursdays, over the next couple of weeks in the grade 3/4 and P-2 playground area at the end of the school day. Seed packets and a range of plants will be for sale for $2. Please come and check it out.
And to conclude our SAKG news we want to do a call out to any families who are keen to care for our animals over the holidays. We have 3 lots of guinea pigs to be billeted out and are chasing a family that would be willing to come into school on a daily basis to feed, water, collect the eggs and check on the chickens. All are easy tasks and our animals are guaranteed to return the favour with endless pleasure and joy. If you are interested in caring for either of the animals please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs O’Brien, Jodie, Kate or see one of the girls in the office.
