From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 8 and the end of our assessment weeks for our students and teachers. In the remaining four weeks our teachers will be finalising the Semester 2 reports and these reports will be posted on Wednesday 10th December.
We have been extremely pleased with the progress we have seen in so many of our students. This week the leadership team meet with every teacher across the generalist classrooms to look at the results of each classroom and where we are seeing the strengths and also the areas for improvement. For those students we see requiring further support in 2026 we look to place them in intervention supports. These intervention supports are effective but do rely on the students attending school regularly.
Energy Breakthrough 2025
One of the big events that was completed last week was the Energy Breakthrough competition in Maryborough. It was overall our best performance collectively by our teams in the race, since entering the event in 2018. Our Delacombe Express team (No 1) completed 272 laps (12 more than our best result from last year) which is 428.18 km and our number 1 team came in 22nd position in the racing component. Our Delacombe Express team (No 2) completed 236 laps which is 371.3km and came in at 50th (out of 100) position. Our Delacombe Express team (No 3) completed 229 laps which is 360.24km and came in at 54th position.
A huge thank you to Mr Zerafa, Mrs Jones, Teilo Bentley, Kyra Miller, Josh Lee and Phil McGrath who were the main organisers of the team. Thank you also to those parents who assisted over the three days: Brayden Shankar, Kara Cook, Denni, Krystal Scicluna, Rachel Booy, Bessie Sealey, Neil Miller, Casey Holland, Neil Moss, Tina Thorpe, Rebecca Govan, Martijn Verheij and the Nichols family. We would also like to thank all our sponsors who supported the team and made the event happen.
Student leadership 2026
Our next set of school leadership positions will be considered over the next two weeks. These positions will consist of the House Captain speeches on Wednesday 11th December. These speeches are completed in front of their houses and are voted by the students and staff in that house.
Staff who are key members of the student leadership area will have a strong say in who is allocated a position for 2026 based on their past interest and support in that area.
Student leadership badges will be presented at the final assembly for the year on Wednesday 17th December in the Stadium starting at 2.20pm.
ORIENTATION DAY AND MEET THE TEACHER DAY
On Tuesday 9th December is our Orientation Day (9.00 - 12.30pm) for our prep students in 2026. It is also our “Meet the teacher” morning for Grade 1s to Grade 6 students. They will be informed of their classrooms at 9.00am by their current classroom teacher and then move to their new classrooms at 9.30am. We have almost finalised our staffing for 2026 and will release the list of staff in the next newsletter. Below is a list of the rooms and where we have placed all 30 classrooms for 2026.
PICNIC DAY - Wednesday 17th December
Below is a list of activities that will occur at the school on Picnic Day. This will occur at the school and commence at 11.30am and wrap up around 1.15pm. The cafe will be open for parents and students during this time.
Prep -2 Athletics
On Thursday we will hold the Prep-2 Athletics on our school oval. The schedule will follow the times below.
FINAL SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING 2025
On Monday night this week we held our final School Council meeting for 2025. Our school members play a role in guiding and supporting the school and it is a commitment to show up 8 times a year on a Monday night for a couple of hours. I would like to thank the staff and parents who played their role in 2025, Dan Cook as President and Felicity Hickingbotham as Vice President. We farewell two School Council members Anita O’Neill and Breanna Tauschke, who both will be leaving the school at the end of this year.
