UMatter

UMatter is Every Day!
As the year comes to a close, it has been wonderful to reflect on the many ways our UMatter message has been shared and lived out across our school community.
Throughout the year, UMatter has reminded students that everyone matters - and that small acts of kindness, inclusion and respect can make a big difference. Whether through classroom discussions, shared activities, kind words or quiet moments of support, students have continued to show a growing understanding of the importance of looking out for one another.
UMatter Day was a special highlight, celebrating kindness, gratitude and the importance of valuing ourselves and others. The messages students shared - through words, artwork, and conversations - were thoughtful and heartfelt, reminding us that feeling seen, included and appreciated really does matter.
As we head into the holidays, UMatter continues beyond the school gates. Families play an important role in reinforcing this message, and the break provides many simple, meaningful opportunities to notice kindness, practise empathy and stay connected.
UMatter Holiday Activities for Families
Share a daily kindness challenge (e.g. help someone without being asked, write a kind note, give a compliment).
Create a family gratitude jar and add one note each day.
Read a book together and talk about how characters show kindness, inclusion, or courage.
Write a thank-you note to someone who has helped you this year (neighbour, coach, relative, friend).
Bake, cook or make something together and share it with someone else.
Practise being a good listener by taking turns sharing without interruptions.
Go for a walk and notice small, positive things - kind gestures, helpful signs, moments in nature.
Create a piece of art or a card that shares the message “You Matter”.
Talk about ways to include others when playing, visiting family or meeting new people.
Reflect together: What made someone smile today? How did we help someone feel included?
Thank you to families for your continued support in reinforcing the UMatter message at home. Together, we are helping our students grow into thoughtful, empathetic, and respectful individuals.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
