LOTE (Chinese)

LOTE Chinese Learning Highlights & End-of-Year Celebration
This term, Prep-Year 6 students across the school have been actively engaged in a range of meaningful and creative Chinese learning experiences.
Year 1 and 2 learners explored the topic of 'Seasons in Chinese'. They learned key vocabulary of the 4 seasons, such as 春天 (Spring),夏天(Summer), 秋天 (Autumn) and 冬天 (Winter), and made a colourful seasons craft poster to represent seasonal changes visually. Moreover, they performed the 4 Seasons song (四季歌) in class and identified the differences among the seasons. These hands-on activities helped students build language confidence while developing their creative thinking skills.
Year 3 and 4 students continued inquiring about 'Directions and School Places' in Chinese. They participated in role-play activities focused on asking for directions at school. Using practical phrases and sentences, for example, "图书馆在哪里?" (Where is the library?). Students practised real-life communication skills, teamwork and clear pronunciation in a fun and interactive way.
Year 5 and 6 learners extended their language skills by writing procedure texts describing the airport check-in process in sequential steps and by designing a travel itinerary in Chinese and English. These tasks connected language learning with real-world travel contexts and sequencing skills. Some students even challenged themselves to write their procedure text in a language other than English or Chinese to achieve an expert level on this summative assessment.
To celebrate a successful year of the LOTE (Chinese) lunch club, the 2025 LOTE Ambassadors enjoyed a special end-of-year gathering lunch at Westfield, recognising their leadership, enthusiasm and contributions to promoting Chinese language and cultural learning across the school.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (祝大家圣诞快乐! 🎄), and also a Happy New Year (祝各位新年安康!).
