Physical Education

A huge thank you to the amazing students and wonderful parents who have supported the Physical Education program throughout the year. Well done to the countless students who have pushed themselves out of their comfort zone to take on the challenges of cross country, tackle new unfamiliar sports, develop new skills and participate in new events. This has included competing in track and field events at the district level when other students have been required to drop out of events because they were only able to enter 2 individual events.

A big thank you also to parents who have volunteered to assist at events as marshals for cross country and house swimming. These events are only possible with the help of the wider school community. Your support of the P.E. program has also been greatly appreciated.

As we say farewell to 2025, I must also say farewell to our extremely capable and enthusiastic House Captains, Juah, Mika, Leila, Max, Sophie, Rafaela, Jerry and Terry. I have appreciated the many hours of assistance you have all provided throughout the year to ensure that our school events have run smoothly. All of our House Captains have performed various roles and displayed their array of strengths across those roles. This was evident in the Prep – 2 Athletics Day this term. They spoke to the students attending their chosen events confidently and in a mature manner. They have also conducted several clinics across various age groups and informed the school community of upcoming events and results from those events during assemblies. We all wish them all the very best in high school and look forward to seeing them take on more leadership roles moving forward.

Prep – 2

The Prep – 2 students have refined their fielding as well as their throwing, catching and striking skills in the back half of the term, culminating in a modified Tee Ball match. This enabled them to work in a team environment, recognising the importance of their stance while striking the ball off the Tee to hit in to areas with the greater space allowing them to score more easily. As fielders’, students developed their hand eye coordination for trapping the moving ball and throwing it as quickly as possible to the catcher.

Level 3- 6

The Level 3- 6 students completed their health and skill components of fitness including the Illinois Agility Test (agility), vertical jump (power), push ups (upper body strength), plank (abdominal strength), beep test - Level 4-6 (aerobic fitness and cardiovascular endurance) , wall toss (coordination) and the sit and reach test (flexibility). Students will track these results through their years in primary school and will be able to identify areas of strength as well as areas to work on.

To finish out the term, students have developed their hand eye coordination playing table tennis. This has incorporated the correct forehand and backhand grip, service technique and rules of the game. Students participated in modified doubles matches once they were able to consistently make contact with the ball.
