Level Four

What an action packed and exciting final term it has been for our Grade 4 students. We are proud of social and academic gains made by our wonderful students.
Reading - We have been about cause and effect. This is when one event (the cause) makes another event happen (the effect).
Example:
- It rained heavily → cause
- The game was cancelled → effect
Readers look for clues such as because, so, therefore, as a result to understand how events are connected.
Writing- Our students have recently undertaken a unit on procedural texts.
Students have learnt about how a procedural text:
- Understand that procedural texts explain how to do or make something.
- Include a clear goal, materials, and steps in order.
- Use command verbs (e.g., cut, mix, turn) and time words (first, next, then).
- Write instructions that are clear and easy to follow.
Maths- Our students have just finished a unit on angles. In Level 4, students learn to:
- Identify angles as measures of turn.
- Compare and classify angles as acute, obtuse, right, or straight.
- Use everyday language to describe the size of angles (e.g., “smaller than a right angle,” “greater than a right angle”).
- Recognise angles in the environment, such as in shapes, buildings, and everyday objects.
Integrated- Our students explored the topic 'Aboriginal History' learning about the life of the First Peoples of Australia before European contact and the effect of the first contact between Aboriginal Australians and European settlers. During the history topic 'First Contact', our students completed an online web quest, learning about life as a British convict in the 1700s and the effect of the first contact between Aboriginal Australians and European settlers.
Gymnastics- We loved seeing our Year 4 students participate in our gymnastics program. The students had a great attitude, stepped out of their comfort zones, supported each other, and made impressive gains. It was wonderful to spend two sessions at DISC, where the students mixed as a cohort to complete the routines.
