During Term 2, M9D were very busy learning some invaluable life skill lessons as well as some other fun excursions:
They rolled up their sleeves and got practical with Paul, who guided them through the step-by-step process of changing a car tyre. Paul explained the safety protocols for using a jack and tightening bolts; students were empowered with a valuable skill that builds confidence and independence.
In another lesson our school First Aid Officer, Nicole Topp, led an engaging and informative First Aid and CPR session, where students learned how to respond in emergencies. From the DRSABCD action plan to practising CPR techniques on dummies, students were equipped with life-saving knowledge. Students enjoyed practising CPR to some Kendrick Lamar beats and working collaboratively in a team.
We were honoured to welcome Weda from Uniting, who shared her powerful story of leaving Afghanistan and starting a new life in Australia. Her courage, resilience, and honesty moved us all. Students listened intently as she spoke about the challenges of adapting to a new country and her hopes for a better future. Students participated in a future goal setting plan and were reminded to have multiple backup plans in life. It was a deeply meaningful experience that sparked thoughtful discussions on empathy, diversity, and global awareness.
As part of our Creative Unit in English, students visited ARTVO, the interactive art gallery that invites you to become part of the artwork. Surrounded by 3D optical illusions and vibrant murals, students let their imaginations run wild, capturing creative photos and writing reflections inspired by the artworks. It was a fun and educational day that brought visual storytelling to life.
Our Physical Education program took a splash this term! Students dove into swimming lessons that focused on water safety and survival skills. From floating techniques to safe rescues, students not only improved their swimming abilities but also learned how to stay calm and act wisely in aquatic emergencies.
Students also received an informative session from Mr Roscoe, who shared a lot of tips and tricks on the use of Excel and its importance to these students when they pursue their dreams of running their own business and keeping up to date with tracking their finances. Mr Roscoe showed students the necessary functions of Excel and how to keep a record of invoices. He also engaged students in playing a fun game, showing some of the functions Excel has to help save time and store data.
