Grade 6

English

Students are continuing to enjoy their novel study on the text 'Once' by Morris Gleitzman. Writing tasks at the beginning of the week are linked as a response to the text.

Over the next fortnight, we will be focusing on:

-Note taking.

-Nominalisation (the process of changing verbs, adjectives, or adverbs into nouns or noun phrases).

-Single paragraph outlines.

Thursday and Friday lessons have a larger focus on Writing. The students are working on information reports about Poland; linking their learning to their novel study text.

                                          Mathematics

Students have been practicing their fluency in number facts for 4 minutes every day. They are working towards 'automaticity' in recalling these number facts. This will provide a strong foundation to support their understanding of concepts taught in upper primary years and beyond.

Over the next two weeks, we will be learning about:

-Investigating area and perimeter of shapes including triangles.

-Comparing and ordering fractions with related denominators.

-Using multiplication to convert mixed numerals to improper fractions.

-Using division to convert improper fractions to mixed numerals.

-Comparing and ordering fractions with related denominators on number lines.

Inquiry

Students are investigating and researching their own country and it's connections to Australia. They will be applying their learning from English lessons to create information reports to share their findings.

Rethinking Feedback in our Classrooms

At BHPS, we're embracing a more effective approach to student feedback. Instead of traditional 'red-pen' corrections, our teachers are providing timely, targeted feedback during lessons. This method encourages students to engage with their learning and make improvements in real-time. Research indicates that such feedback can significantly enhance student learning outcomes.

While students' books may appear less marked, this reflects a shift towards meaningful feedback. By focusing on understanding and growth, we're fostering a more engaging and effective learning environment.
