Ripple Festival – The Awakening of the Serpent
We’re thrilled to share an incredible opportunity for our community to get involved in something truly magical. Campaspe Shire Council has extended a special invitation to all of us - students, families and staff - to attend the opening event of Ripple Fest, a celebration of creativity, resilience and community.
Ripple Fest runs from 22 to 25 May and will light up both Rochester and Echuca with a vibrant lineup of art, music, movement and storytelling.
We would like to especially highlight one unforgettable experience - The Awakening of the Yorta Yorta Rainbow Serpent, right here in Echuca, at the beautiful Aquatic Reserve.
Our Arts Academy and Amplify students have already began the process of restoring the Serpent this week. But we need your help to carry the 16m long Serpent during the procession!
Staff and students are warmly invited to express their interest in participating in the Ripple Fest Procession. If you would like to be involved, please contact Alisha Ryan or Cassie Leopold.
Event Details
When & Where: Saturday 24 May – at the Aquatic Reserve, 2 Heygarth Street, Echuca.
The Serpent Procession will commence from approximately 6pm.
Aquatic Reserve Order of Events
* Starting at 2pm, the day begins with a powerful performance from Bangarra Dance Company’s Rekindling Youth Program, featuring dancers from Shepparton, Rochester and Echuca. These young artists have rehearsed on Country at the Dharnya Centre and are ready to move hearts with their storytelling through dance.
* Then, from 5pm, the Reserve transforms into a living, breathing work of art! Think giant puppets, live music, lighting effects, projections, and even a mass dance event — and yes, you can join in! Check out Ripple Fest’s socials to learn the choreography and come be part of the magic.
* Live performances will include our very own Madi Walker, Shepparton rapper Brikky B and opera singer Charlotte Goode — a powerful blend of local talent and professional artistry.
And the best part?
The entire event is free – no bookings, no tickets, just turn up!
This event is part of a wider effort supported by the Victorian State Government to help our community reconnect and celebrate after the 2022 flood event.
So, mark your calendars, get your picnic rug ready, and let’s come together to honour the land, the stories and each other at Ripple Fest.
