Year 9 Exams and Study-from-Home Day
As part of our commitment to supporting a smooth transition into the senior years, we are pleased to introduce End of Semester Exams for our Year 9 students this year. This important initiative provides students with the opportunity to begin developing the exam experience, study habits and time management skills that will support their success in Years 10–12.
Exam Schedule
The Semester 1 exams will be held on Tuesday 10 June and Wednesday 11 June. Students will complete exams in the following subjects:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities
To support wellbeing and preparation, students will have scheduled revision breaks between exams and a Study-from-Home Day on Friday 6 June.
Information Session
An exam information session was held for all Year 9 students last week where the structure, expectations and support available were clearly outlined.
Assessment and Preparation
Exams will contribute 20% to each subject’s overall Semester 1 result. While this may be a new experience for some students, they will be well supported through the process:
- Teachers will provide revision checklists and practice exams
- In-class time will be dedicated to study techniques and preparation strategies
- Students are encouraged to begin revision now and allocate regular time each week to study
Uniform and Support
- All students are expected to wear full school uniform on both exam days
- Students requiring special exam provisions will be supported by our Learning Enhancement team
We believe this is a positive and valuable step in our students’ academic journey and appreciate your support in helping them approach the experience with confidence.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Year 10 Exams
The Year 10 and 11 Examination Period will take place from Friday 6 June to Friday 13 June. Families are asked to please read the following key information to help support students during this important time.
Exam Timetable
The exam timetable can be accessed here.
Rescheduling Exams
If a student needs to reschedule an exam, a Reschedule Request Form must be completed by Friday 16 May. Approved reasons include:
- A clash with a Year 12 class
- A medical appointment (with certificate)
- An exam clash
- Three exams scheduled on the same day
Please note: Unapproved absences may result in a zero, which can significantly impact overall grades, particularly for Year 10 students. Students will be notified of outcomes in the week prior to exams.
Attendance Requirements
- Year 10 and 11 students enrolled in the Academic Pathway are only required to attend school when they have a scheduled exam.
- If onsite outside of an exam session, students must sign in at Student Services and remain in the Library, the only supervised space available.
- Year 10 students enrolled in VCE-VM and Applied Learning programs are expected to attend their regular classes as normal.
Uniform
All students must wear full school uniform during exams.
Special Provisions
Students with approved exam provisions (e.g. rest breaks, a scribe, or extra time) will be supported by our Learning Enhancement team and will sit exams in a separate location. Please contact Mrs Hutton to confirm your child’s arrangements.
Preparation and Revision
Subject teachers are providing:
- Revision checklists
- Practice exams
- In-class revision support and strategies
We encourage all students to begin preparing now and to maintain regular study habits in the lead-up to exams.
Further Details
Final information will be shared with students and families in Week 6 of this term.
Thank you for supporting your child in preparing for a successful exam period.
