Campaspe Senior Girls AFL

Our Senior Girls AFL team couldn’t have asked for a better day for footy as they took on SMOTA at Vic Park last week.

Our girls came out firing with a couple of quick goals in the first quarter and held a solid lead early on. SMOTA, however, came back strong in the second, narrowing the gap.

We were still 5 points up at three-quarter time, but in a nail-biting finish, SMOTA edged ahead in the final minutes and we went down by just 6 points in the end.

A huge shoutout to Rose Byrne, who was dominant in the ruck all game and kicked 3 impressive goals! Mackenzie Evans, Emma Head and Aysha Mitsch showed incredible pace bringing the ball down the ground, while Grace Riddell was rock solid in defence with crucial intercepts and booming torps from the kick-in.

It was a big effort from the whole team and the girls should be very proud of how they played and supported each other.

Massive thanks also goes out to Geordie Teasdale for umpiring solo and doing a fantastic job!

Senior Boys AFL

Our Senior Boys AFL team hit the road early, to take on Rowville in Round 1 of the Premier Football League in Melbourne last week.

The opening quarter saw Rowville come out firing, slotting four quick goals before our boys had even found their feet. Thankfully, Zac Coghlan sparked the momentum shift by getting the ball rolling through the middle. This led to majors from Tom Naujok, Bodhi Teasdale-Dohnt and Archie Teasdale, allowing St Joseph’s to wrestle back control by the end of the first term.

In the second quarter, the team lifted. Our boys responded with four goals to Rowville’s two, applying consistent pressure across the ground. Jake Barden and Archie Teasdale hit the scoreboard, giving us a well-earned three-point lead heading into the main break.

Rowville responded in the third quarter, edging back in front with three goals to our one.

Despite the scoreboard pressure, Rhys Drennan and Archer Golding provided vital drive off half-back, keeping us well and truly in the contest. We trailed by 12 points at the final break.

After an inspiring three-quarter-time rev-up from Coach Carnie, the boys came out determined and full of energy. Hudson Kellett and Bodhi Teasdale-Dohnt stepped up in the clutch moments, helping create two crucial goals to Gus M and Jake B late in the term.

With time ticking down, St Joseph’s snatched a thrilling one-point victory in the dying moments.

Final Score: St Joseph’s: 10.6 (66) Rowville: 9.11 (65)

Best on Ground: Hudson, Rhys, Bodhi, Jake B, Archie and Ky H.

A huge thank you to the teachers and students who supported the team on the day - your help is always appreciated.

Campaspe Senior & Intermediate Soccer

Our Senior and Intermediate soccer teams recently competed in the Campaspe competition at Jack Eddy Oval.

Intermediate Girls

  • Game 1 vs Echuca College: The team came out firing from the first whistle, with Captain Kate Head scoring in the opening minute. From there, the girls dominated play, finishing with a convincing 7-0 win.
  • Game 2 vs SMOTA: Despite strong attacking efforts in the first half and a solid defensive performance in the second, SMOTA managed to score the only goal of the match, handing us a 0-1 loss.
  • Goal Scorers: Kate Head, Georgina Farrell, Evie Dyson, Addi Power, Chelsea Swiggs

The girls should be proud of their performance, particularly their strong team cohesion and attacking flair.

Senior Girls

The Senior Girls Soccer Team displayed resilience and teamwork throughout the day.

  • Game 1 vs Echuca College: A tough start with a 0-3 loss, but valuable lessons learned.
  • Game 2 vs St Augustine’s: A strong comeback saw the girls take a 1-0 win.
  • Game 3 vs SMOTA: The final match ended in a 0-0 draw after a tightly contested battle.

Standout players on the day included Sophiea Ketteridge, Cora Wilson and Oluchi Ekeanyanwu for their consistent efforts and leadership.

Intermediate Boys

The Intermediate Boys impressed with skill and composure across both games.

  • Game 1 vs Rochester Secondary College: A 2-0 victory, with goals from Van Lowry - a brilliant chipped finish and a long-range strike from Harry Sly, drawing comparisons to Paul Pogba in his prime!
  • Final vs St Augustine’s: Leading 1-0 for most of the match, an unfortunate penalty saw St Augustine equalise late. In a nail-biting penalty shootout, we came up just short, finishing as runners-up.

The boys showed excellent sportsmanship and determination throughout.

Senior Boys

The Senior Boys Soccer Team demonstrated impressive development and spirit during their three-game campaign.

  • Game 1 vs Rochester SC: A narrow 0-1 loss, despite a strong defensive effort and several scoring opportunities.
  • Game 2 vs St Augustine’s: A more attacking approach saw some exciting play, but the game ended in a 0-2 loss.
  • Game 3 vs Echuca College: A well-deserved 2-0 win sealed the day, showcasing persistence and teamwork.

Standout performances included dominant midfield play from Cody Walker, lightning-fast wing runs from Paddy Barry and a rock-solid defence led by Jessie Johnstone.

All our teams should be commended for their commitment, sportsmanship and school pride.

Huge thanks also goes out to our coaches - Zoe Taylor, Blaize Hearn, Richard Bartle, Andrea Romano and Mohini Naidu.
