Specialist News

Junior School P.E

Students have been completing a variety of activities to enhance their throwing and catching skills. Students have been working at tracking various objects with their eyes and getting their hands in the ready position. This has been done with both individual and partner catching and throwing challenges. There has been weekly competitions to enhance engagement resulting in the winning classes receiving 3 smileys for their bucket.

Middle School P.E

Students have been focusing on their passing and catching skills through modified netball games. They have learnt a variety of passes - chest pass, shoulder pass, overhead pass and bounce pass - and are becoming more adept at when to use each one. Moving into space to receive a pass is something that the students will continue to develop throughout the remainder of the term.

Senior School P.E

Students have been honing their knowledge of netball and linking the skills used which assist them in other sports they play. They are identifying the way in which creating space and not always being on the attack can assist their team. Students are to be commended on the way they have fully engaged in the netball unit with many enjoying it so much they trialled for our Senior Boys and Senior Girls netball teams in record numbers.

District Cross Country

In the last week of term 1 we had 46 students head to Casey Fields to compete at District Cross Country. Every single student represented the school with such pride, their behaviour was exceptional. We have 15 students who have qualified for the Division carnival. This is our best ever result - to put that into perspective Cranbourne South students claimed 15 out of a possible 60 places for Division. We were the best performed school - for a school of our size this is phenomenal!

Thanks to Mr Meade, Mrs P and Mrs Hinton for accompanying the children.

A big thanks to the parents and family members who came and cheered the students.

Congratulations to the following students to have progressed to the Division carnival:

Ava T, Madalee W, Anastasiia S, Elliot F, Nellie K, Lena K, Maddix H, Chase V, Parker O, Billie B, Lera K, Mia C, Everlyn R, Kobe D & Charlie R

Junior House Athletics

On the last day of term 1 the junior school students had their Athletics day. It has a day full of colour, smiles and laughter. Every student is to be commended on the way in which they participated in the events.

The day started with the sprint races in which many of the students managed to stay in their own lane - the foundations were by far the best at it given they had practised the day before in P.E.

Students then broke up into smaller groups to have a go at a variety of fun activities. Some of the comments from students about each activity.

Egg and Spoon - ‘Lucky they weren't real eggs as we would have had yoke everywhere!”

Sack Races - ‘This is so much fun and even funnier when someone falls over”.

Bean Bag Shot Put - ‘I thought it would be hard to get them in the hoop but I did it”.

Parachute - "The best was the popcorn chickens where we made them fly in the air!”

A big thankyou to our amazing year 6 leaders who ran each of the activities and took ownership of the day.

A highlight was the Teacher Race in which Miss Roberts, Miss Whittacker, Mrs Mills and Mr Holden went head to head. It was an evenly contested sprint until Mr Holden put the afterburners on with 20 metres to go. Some of the students were mindblown with one commenting, ‘Mr Holden was as fast as Lightning McQueen!”.

Throughout the day house points were awarded based on sprint results, participation and following of school values.

1st - Wiiny

Equal 2nd - Munmut and Banny

3rd - Biik

Congratulations to Wiiny for taking home the trophy for the 2025 Junior Athletics carnival.

The Junior Athletics House points were combined with the Year 3 to 6 Athletics House points in order to crown our 2025 Athletics House. It was a tight tussle:

Well done to Baany on being crowned the 2025 Athletics champions.

Casey Netball Clinics

We were lucky enough to have two Casey Demons netball players come to school and conduct clinics with classes during P.E lessons. The students enjoyed learning new skills related to netball including different types of passes and positional play.

V.I.S Athlete Guest Speaker

Year 5 students were lucky enough to rub shoulders with two time Olympic Long Jumper Brooke Buschkuehl earlier this term. This was part of the Victorian Institute of Sport “Be Fit, Be Well” Program in which students hear the ways in which athletes have overcome adversity and displayed resilience on their sporting journey. A highlight for the students was hearing about Brooke’s experiences at both Olympic and Commonwealth Games. The visit was topped off with the students being able to hold Brooke’s silver medal from the Commonwealth games.

District Athletics

We had 38 students represent the school at District Athletics last week at Casey Fields. It was an absolutely glorious day for all involved - weather, performance and behaviour. We had lots of students place in the top 3 for their event.

Middle School Swimming

Year 3 and 4 students attended a 5 day swimming and water safety program run by Aligned Leisure at Casey RACE. Once again this program was subsidised by the Swimming in Schools funding which made it accessible to all students.

The program focused on water safety, life-saving skills and building confidence in and around the water. It was also a chance for students to gain interpersonal skills on getting changed and looking after their belongings.

We thank our wonderful teachers and Education support staff who attended the event.

Term 2 has seen the Foundation students begin their discussion around the Zones of Regulation. Talking about our emotions, labelling them, how they present in our bodies and strategies we can use to ensure we never make anyone else unsafe because of our emotions.

The Year 1 and 2 students have been working on our social skills. Talking about how to greet people, and why it's polite to greet people. We've also started discussing what a social cue or a body cue is, to help us to read a social situation.

The Year 3 and 4 students have been discussing what it means to have a growth mindset, and how our hurtful words can cause damage that we can not actually see on the outside.

The Year 5 and 6 students have been completing their unit on Teamwork. Taking part in a variety of tasks that require communication, problem solving, leadership and trust.

Foundation, Year 1/2

The Year 1 and 2 classes have been learning about Force. Through conducting experiments they have been learning about friction, pushing and pulling. Students have also begun learning about "simple machines" such as ramps and levers.

Year 3/4

Students in Year 3/4 have been learning about sound. They have been looking at how sound is produced, transmitted and can be amplified. They have also looked at how sound waves can changed by adjusting their frequency (pitch) and amplitude (volume).

Year 5/6 students have been learning all about animal adaptations. They have been looking at physical, behavioural and physiological adaptations that animals have developed to live in certain environments. They have also done some research into different environments and the features and characteristics that define them. The Year 5/6's are now working on adapting animals to new environments so look forward to learning all about the Antarctic Pandas, Alpine Crocodiles or Freshwater Kangaroos.
