Last week, the activities for Mother’s Day kicked off in our school community with the stall and the Mother’s/Special Friend's Cocktail Party. We are grateful to our P&F for providing both of these events. The stall is always a much-loved time for the children to shop for the special ladies in their lives, and by the looks of the boot-scooting, there might have been some ‘tired’ mums on Saturday!
This week, we continue the celebrations, as we come together for the Mother’s Special Friends Breakfast and whole school liturgy. The breakfast kicks off tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 7.30am in the hall and is followed by the Liturgy at 8.50am in the church. These events are family-focused and special times for the children and special ladies attached to St Agnes’. For the breakfast, please enter the hall via the Locinda Street gates and rear hall doors. We ask the children to place their bags at their line-up areas outside classrooms, before coming into the hall. It is guaranteed that the hall will be a bit squishy in the morning, as we all gather together. The children have been gently reminded that the seats are for the parents, not the children. We will place some standing tables on the landing outside the hall, to create extra space for all. Thank you to all of our dad helpers for running this event too! At approximately 8.15am the Mother’s Day Raffle will be drawn, so make sure you are around for this. Following the conclusion of the breakfast, all mums, aunties, grandparents, carers, guardians are all invited over the church for our annual liturgy. This is a very special event, which all students take part in. I encourage all ladies to make an effort to get to this one, if you possibly can. The children will sit in their class groups at the back of the church, with all of our guests in the front six rows of the church. The liturgy will run for approximately one hour.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge, thank and send well wishes to all of the ladies in the lives of our students. Standing on the school gate throughout each week, I have the privilege of seeing and engaging with many of you and can see first-hand, how lucky the children are to have terrific role models in their lives. The role of the mother takes many different forms in different families and this is to be celebrated. The balance of supporting the children, encouraging them, providing some ‘tough love’ when they need it; all while balancing the juggle of work and family life. Being a mum is no easy gig and so we wish all of you a very happy Mother’s Day for this Sunday. May you be spoiled by those most precious to you.
St Agnes’ Sports Day
On Monday 12th May, from 9.30am onwards we have our St Agnes’ Sports Carnival. This is held at Bricker Reserve (Rowans Road, Moorabbin). The weather is looking really good, so we are all systems go for the reboot! The children are asked to wear their full sports uniform and are invited to wear accessories (wristbands, socks etc.) in their house colour. Thank you to all of those parents who have put their hand up to assist on the day. You will be allocated to an event to assist with and Mr Kost will hold a short briefing at 9.30am on the day. Please ensure your child has their school hat with them at school because we will be outside for a few hours. All parents are welcome to come along to support the children. It is a terrific, low key sports-day focused on participation and fun!
Open Day, Playgroup and Prep 2026
We have our final Open Day for prospective families to tour our school and visit our classrooms on Tuesday 13th May. Families can register for these events by following this link. There has continued to be a strong demand both through Open Days and individual school tours. Thank you once again for spreading to word about our school. We are grateful for your support. For those with 3 and 4 year old children, our Playgroup continues on Friday 16th May at 9am in the art room.

Our Parents & Friends Committee will meet for the first time this term on Tuesday 13th May at 7.30pm. All parents are welcome to attend this meeting and we ask our Class Reps make a special effort to be in attendance please. 100 Skips a Day in May
Mrs Phyland and the SRCs are promoting wellbeing, celebrating healthy bodies and staying active together with a new challenge: 100 skips a day in May! Starting the day with skipping energises the body and mind, improving focus and mood for a positive, productive day of learning. Let’s make 100 skips part of our daily routine this May!
- Skipping will happen every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before school.
- Parents and loved ones are welcome to join us on drop off.
- On other days or when it's raining, students are encouraged to skip at home, with their families.
- Once a child completes their 100 skips, they’ll tally it in class. (SRC will make a tally poster for each class).
- Runners can be brought in school bags to change into, unless it’s already a sports day.
- The class with the highest total will be announced and rewarded at our Biggest Morning Tea.
- We’ll begin this initiative on Tuesday 13th May, following the Sports Carnival.
- The SRC Captains will introduce this initiative to students at assembly.
Sacrament of First Eucharist
This term, our Year Four students commence preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist. This is a special step in the faith journey of the children and there are two key dates to be aware of:
- Family Faith Night: Wednesday 14th May at 7pm
- Sacrament Mass: Saturday 21st June at 6pm
We look forward to coming together to support the children in the lead up to this occasion.
Cybersafety Online Seminar - Inform and Empower - Thursday 15th May at 7.30pm
This year, our school will once again offer a parent seminar for families around the online safety of our students. Our parents are invited to join an online community webinar together with neighbouring schools. This way, you can tune in from your living room straight after dinner. We would strongly recommend that all Year 3-6 parents attend this online session, but all families are welcome to get involved. Marty and Carley from Inform and Empower offer up-to-date information around online trends, as well as practical strategies for parenting and managing tricky situations with your child. All parents who are interested are asked to register using the following link: bit.ly/CommunityWebinarMay15. This online webinar will supplement the work being completed by students in class, as they join their termly eSafety webinars from their classrooms. It will form part of a two-year cycle moving forward, with an onsite session in 2026.
Principal’s Conference - Week commencing 19th May
In the week commencing Monday 19th May, I will be on professional learning leave with the South Central Principal’s Network. District Soccer Lightning Premiership - Friday 23rd May
We will have two teams heading off to represent our school at the Holt District Soccer Lightning Premiership. The event is held at Caulfield Park (Balaclava Road) and parents are welcome to attend. More information has been communicated via Operoo for those students/families involved.
Prep Prayers in Pyjamas - Wednesday 28th May at 7pm
We are excited to host our Prep Prayers in Pyjamas night once again this year. The children are asked to come along to school with mum and/or dad, dressed in their PJs to learn as a family about prayer. Parents are certainly not required to wear PJs, but welcome to if you wish!
Winter Uniform
A gentle reminder that all students should now be wearing full winter uniform on their non-sport days. We are aware there is a shortage of long sleeve shirts at uniform provider, Noone. Children are welcome to wear the short sleeved shirts while this is sorted out. Please note the school second hand uniform shop will be open this Friday 9th May at 8.30am.
St Agnes’ Snippets
District Cross Country
Congratulations to all of the runners who were part of our Cross Country team last week. Overall, our school finished in fifth place. We were particularly proud of the exemplary effort and behaviour from our students both as they competed and when supporting their fellow St Agnes’ students. Thank you to Mr Kost and other staff for supporting cross-country training to help the children prepare.
