Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future. We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

National Reconciliation Week 2025

National Sorry Day is a day dedicated to commemorating the Stolen Generations. It is part of the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and is held annually in Australia on the 26th of May.

To help commemorate the day, Crews groups are going to create a collaborative drawing to be displayed in classrooms.

It was important for students to create their own symbols. Ones that reflect on how we can work towards reconciliation as individuals, as crews, or as a school.

The symbols of hearts commemorating the Stolen Generations and the symbols of eyes, ears, and hands represent our commitment to reconciliation.  The flags, leaves and circle patterns are the crews' honour of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Please come along to Friday's (30th May) Assembly to celebrate National Reconciliation Week 2025, to see what our Kalinda Primary School students have learnt and how they have celebrated reconciliation. We will be making a Community Installation Art piece to demonstrate our step towards reconciliation.

The banner below details the theme and emblem for National Reconciliation Week 2025.

Also, you can log on to Kalinda Online an from the Homepage; click on the sub-page titled National Reconciliation Week 2025 to view the Kalinda Primary School NRW2025 sessions. You may want to complete and Installation Leaf art piece yourself and bring it along to the Kalinda School Assembly to form a Kalinda Reconciliation bridge.

Here is an example of the collaborative artwork produced by one Crews group.

Celebrating our multiculturalism at Kalinda

At Kalinda we are proud to be a diverse school community with students and families coming from a large range of backgrounds.

As our school becomes increasingly multicultural, we are keen to be able to share and celebrate the culture and traditions of all of our families. This is important for us to connect with others, think globally, and to ensure everyone feels represented and seen at Kalinda.

To ensure this diversity is celebrated both in and out of the classroom, we welcome any interested parents to join our School Council's Diversity and Inclusion sub-committee. We will meet about once per term, and it is a great way for parents to get involved in this part of our school. If interested in joining the sub-committee or to find out more, please email me at shaun.mcclare@education.vic.gov.au
