2025 Prefect Team

by Ms Chloe Martinich, Leading Teacher, Student Voice

Following the election of our 2025 School Captain and Vice-Captains earlier this term, we held over 30 interviews to appoint our 2025 Prefect Team. The following students were selected based on their experience in working effectively in teams, their passion and ideas for meaningful and realistic school change and their demonstration of leadership qualities.

We have an exceptional team of students making up our 2025 Prefect Team and I am excited to work with them closely next year as they lead our school community.

Thank you to Ms Arabella Thompson (Year 12 Coordinator), Ms Ying Qin (2025 House Coordinator), Ms Sarah Weyenberg (SRC Coordinator) and Mr Tim Snow (Sports Coordinator) for assisting as panel members for these interviews.

House Prefect: Chang

Nate T has been extensively involved in the school community since Year 7, from the music program to being part of the Marrung team creating a Reconciliation Action Plan for our school. He brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Prefect Team.  He attended the School for Student Leadership in Year 9 and has been an active SRC member.  He aims to increase the sense of community around our houses and ignite more pep and passion through house meetings and house badges.

House Prefect: Irwin

Ava W has a vision to inspire more girls to participate in sport and other house activities. She is passionate about fostering house spirit and bringing joy to younger students through fun community events. Her experience as a Year 10 leader, peer support leader, part of the Reconciliation Action Plan, active cast member in the school production, and her training in student leadership make her an outstanding choice to lead Irwin House.

House Prefect: Blackburn

Louie H has a strong passion for sport and school carnivals and is eager to showcase the excellence of Blackburn House. We’re looking forward to seeing how he can use his social skills and charisma to inspire his fellow Blackburn House peers to continue to participate and see the rise of Blackburn in the House Championship.

House Prefect: Freeman

Taj F epitomises the spirit of teamwork. He has been quietly achieving and honing his leadership skills over the past few years, as an active member of the SRC from Year 7 to 9, working towards his Gold Duke of Ed award, a member of the Tech Crew in Year 10 and a peer support leader. He’s eager to see more whole school house events and is excited to bring innovative, fun ideas to get more students involved.

Arts Prefect

Oak E’s passion for the Arts was undeniable during their interview. They have been an active participant in school productions and they are currently completing Visual Arts, VCD, Drama, and Media. Their goal is to inspire younger students to engage in creative outlets and help reduce the stigma surrounding Arts subjects. With extensive leadership experience as a peer support leader, active SRC member, VIC SRC representative contributing to policy reform, and involvement in our recent school uniform review, they are exceptionally well-placed to lead as Arts Prefect.

Community Prefects

Georgia G has been deeply involved in many aspects of our school community during her time at Box Hill High School, including serving as a class captain, peer support leader, Year 11 leader, and an active member of the SRC. She has also volunteered at open nights and contributed as a school photographer. She is motivated to improve inclusivity and connection at our school.

Harper L has also been actively involved in many areas of our school community, including debating, badminton, peer support, serving as a library leader, and representing our school at the Youth Parliament. She is passionate about celebrating diversity and is eager to workshop and implement her ideas through whole school events such as Harmony Day and IDAHOBIT Day. Her dedication and vision will help foster a more inclusive and connected school environment.

Sports Prefect

Hai Sheng H is driven by a deep love for sport and sees this role as a special opportunity to grow and learn new skills. He is an experienced tennis player, soccer player, and swimming instructor. He is known for being kind, happy, and charismatic. He aims to boost awareness and communication around lunchtime sports events and interschool competitions.

International Prefect

Gavin N is exceptionally well placed to excel in this role, having demonstrated remarkable leadership despite only being a student at our school for two years.  He has served as a member of the SRC, a Year 11 leader, participated in the Solar Car project, and competed in the Swinburne Innovation Challenge. He is fluent in five languages and has the unique ability to connect with a wide variety of students. His goal is to give back to our school by improving cultural knowledge, fostering respect, and making clubs and activities more accessible for both local and international students.

SRC Prefect

Elva A’s passion for our student body is clear. She is determined to be the voice for as many students as possible, turning opinions into achievable improvements through prefect team initiatives or SRC projects. Despite it being her first year in SRC during 2024, she has already made a significant impact as a member of the executive council, helping set up the SRC study rooms, managing budgets, and guiding younger students in analysing student voice data. She is organised and dedicated and will play a pivotal role this year as the bridge between two of our school’s largest leadership groups.
