CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to recognise and understand monologue and its purpose and characteristics.

VOCABULARY

Monologue: The Greek root word 'monologos' translates to “speaking alone,” and that's a monologue: one person doing all the talking. In theatre, sometimes a character has a monologue that they perform. You might have an internal monologue where you talk to yourself to better understand some dilemma.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

  • Identify any monologues within the text.
  • Explain the characteristics of the monologue used and their purpose to engage the reader.
  • Analyse and critique the monologue’s effectiveness; do they persuade or engage the reader, how so? Was it effective?
