As we come to the end of another academic year, it’s essential to pause and reflect on the moments that have set the tone for our journey ahead. One of the highlights has undoubtedly been our Inaugural Mass, held on February 24th at the magnificent St. Patrick's Cathedral. This gathering was not just a ceremony; it was a heartfelt celebration of community, leadership, and the remarkable journey of our Year 12 students.
The grandeur of St. Patrick's Cathedral provided a fitting backdrop for this momentous occasion. The ceremony marked the official beginning of our Year 12 students’ final year as secondary students, a significant milestone that deserves recognition and celebration.
Throughout the Mass, our college leaders took centre stage, showcasing their commitment and dedication to our school community. Their inspiring messages echoed throughout the cathedral, reminding us of the values we hold dear: integrity, respect, and the pursuit of excellence. It was a poignant moment, watching our leaders embrace their roles and responsibilities, setting a positive example for their peers.
In June, we celebrated with our students at the Year 12 Formal, held at Alencia in Dandenong. This was a night filled with good music, delicious food, and delightful company, where staff and students had the chance to let their hair down and enjoy themselves. The dance floor was alive with energy, showcasing some very skilful moves from both students and staff alike—truly a night to remember!
Throughout the year, our Year 12 students worked hard in their studies, often juggling the responsibilities of leadership while planning significant events such as Mission Action Day (MAD). Recognising that hard work must be balanced with mindfulness, our caring Year Level Leaders, Alex Bantock and Michael Miller, organised Meditation, Yoga, and Breakfast mornings. These sessions provided students with the opportunity to reconnect with their peers and take moments for reflection amid their busy schedules.
As we approached the end of what felt like a fast-paced and fulfilling year, our students gathered to celebrate their achievements during the Final Mass and Valedictory on October 14th. This event kicked off a week filled with final activities: the distribution of Year 12 jumpers, commemorative booklets signed by peers and staff, BBQ lunches, and special breakfasts. The culmination of these celebrations led to an important moment on October 17th, when our Year 12s counted down the final minutes of their classes at Mazenod and walked out the doors for the very last time.
As a senior pastoral team and on behalf of the college, we wish our Year 12 students the best of luck with their upcoming exams, which officially begin on Tuesday, October 29th, with English. We know they will approach this challenge with the same dedication they have shown throughout the year.
Let us carry the spirit of these moments with us as we look ahead. Here’s to a wonderful year ahead, grounded in faith and unity, and to the bright futures that await our students! God bless.
