On June 1st, our school celebrated this day together. We learned about the value of kind words. Students learned about both giving and receiving compliments. It was a fantastic opportunity to review our Respectful Relationships learning about character strengths. We discussed strengths such as curiosity, kindness, honesty, generosity, and fairness. Students focused on communicating their appreciation of other people’s character strengths.
These are some of the things students said when asked about their experience of Say Something Nice Day.
“It makes me feel warm inside, when someone says something nice to me.” – Tamsyn
“I feel happy when kids say positive things about me.” -Matteo
“It felt nice when I had others tell me that my new hair cut looked nice.” – Jessie
Perhaps we can celebrate Say Something Nice Day all the year round! Kind words help make a happier world.
As part of our Term 2 Inquiry Unit, “Change, Discovery and Our History” the Year 4 students attended Bundoora Heritage Site, where they stepped back in time to experience what life was like in the early 1900s. During their visit, they explored an old farmhouse, participated in a school lesson, played traditional games from the past, churned butter, used printing tiles to print their names, and viewed a collection of Aboriginal artefacts. The excursion provided students with a hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding of how communities and daily life have changed over time.

Year 1 Shape Explorers
In Year 1, students have been learning about 2D shapes and their features. We have explored circles, squares, rectangles and triangles, learning about the number of sides and corners each shape has. Students have enjoyed using shape names and describing what makes each shape different.

We have looked for shapes in our classroom and around the school, discovering that shapes really are everywhere! Students especially enjoyed learning and dancing to our shape song, which helped us remember the names and features of different shapes in a fun and engaging way.

As part of our learning, students created colourful shape crowns to reinforce their understanding of 2D shapes. We also participated in shape hunts, games and hands-on activities that encouraged students to apply their learning in meaningful ways.
Some of our students shared: "Shapes are everywhere!" "I can find shapes in my classroom and at home." "I know a triangle has 3 sides."

We are incredibly proud of the way our students embraced this learning. One of the highlights was performing our shape song while wearing the crowns they had worked so hard to create. The students sang with confidence, enthusiasm and huge smiles, proudly sharing their learning with others. It was wonderful to see their excitement shine through as they celebrated all they had learnt about shapes.
