Earlier this month, the Year 2 students stepped back in time during an exciting excursion to Como House, where they explored what life was like in colonial Melbourne during the 1800s.
Throughout the day, students took part in a range of hands-on activities that helped them compare life in the past with life today. They toured the beautiful Como House as guests of the Armitage family, explored rooms such as the ballroom, and discovered how daily life was very different for children and families in the 1800s. Students were fascinated by learning about historical etiquette and investigating how household facilities, including toilets, and communication methods, have changed over time.
The students also experienced life from the perspective of one of Como House’s servants. Learning about the jobs people completed before modern technology made many tasks easier. Students learned how to do laundry, clean out the chamber pots and how dishes were cleaned and organised.
One of the highlights of the day was participating in traditional outdoor games from the 1800s, including croquet, quoits and skipping. Students enjoyed discovering how children entertained themselves before tv, computers and other modern technology existed.
Hevani from 2A and Gawa from 2B have written about their experience.
We are very proud of the students for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour throughout the day.

Congratulations to our Year 5 & 6 boys who represented Deer Park West PS at the Boys Soccer Tournament. Thank you to Miss Davies and Mr Andrea for supervising and supporting the students on the day. The students lost 2 games and drew 2 games. What a super effort, well done!

A BIG thank you to Mr Camilleri for organising the Stomp Dance Workshop for students last Friday. As you can see by the photos below, the students had a great time learning new dance routines.
