Hola! This week at Spanish Club (Monday after school), parents and kids who attended the session were thrilled to explore a bit of Cuba through Vince's (Nina's dad from Foundation D) family history.
Vince explained how his grandparents had a wonderful life in Cuba but had to migrate to the US during Castro's regime. Kids were then excited when Vince showed them a treasure map his grandparents created when they hid all their valuables before leaving to pursue the American dream.
Cuba is a vibrant and colourful country with amazing, friendly people who love food, music and dancing. Vince's grandma was originally from Guantanamo, so she was a true Guantanamera. Suddenly, the whole Spanish Club, kids and adults alike, found themselves clapping and dancing when Vince played the famous Guantanamera song.
The music continued with classics like Down by the Bay sung in Spanish with some cheeky rhymes; from some parents, I must say, haha. Then Vince showed off a bit of his Mexican heritage by singing Canción del Mariachi from Antonio Banderas in Desperado.
After enjoying guava with cheese and crackers (guava treats are popular in Cuba and across Latin America), kids were eager to play music statues, the final activity of the session.
It was an incredible experience for children and adults alike.
Vince is an absolute legend and we can't thank him enough for putting together such a memorable presentation full of music, colours, flavours and dance! Muchas gracias Vince por compartir un poco de tu historia con todos y darnos un momento de felicidad con tus increíblemente divertidas canciones. ¡Muchas gracias!
Everyone is welcome at our next session on Monday 1st June, when our very own Alberto will amaze kids and parents with a great and surprising activity.
¡Nos vemos el lunes!
