Attendance

At Newlands Primary School, we prioritise regular school attendance and work closely with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers, enjoying all the benefits that school brings.
Attending school every day means experiencing learning, friendships, fun, and opportunities that help shape your child’s future. We understand there are times when children need to miss school. However, where possible, we encourage families to schedule holidays, medical appointments, and dental visits outside of school hours to minimise disruption to learning.
If your child is well enough to attend school but is feeling worried about friendships, schoolwork, or other concerns, we encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can sometimes make these feelings stronger over time. If your child is having trouble attending school, please speak with their classroom teacher, Learning Community Leader (LCL), or our MHWL, Nicolle Brown, to discuss available supports.
We know that mornings can be busy and families juggle many challenges each day. If your child is absent, please notify the school as soon as possible via Sentral so we can work together to support them. Attached it a step by step guide on how to enter your child’s absence on Sentral.
Please also note:
- All school gates close at 9:10am. Students arriving after this time must be signed in at the reception kiosk by a parent/carer.
- Early collection for appointments should only occur after 2:30pm where possible. Please notify the office in advance if you will be collecting your child early.
Thank you for your support in helping every child feel connected, supported, and ready to learn each day.
