Leadership Report

What a week we’ve had at school! Somehow we have already passed the halfway mark of the term, I’m not quite sure how that happened. One minute we were unpacking lunchboxes and finding lost hats, and the next we’re staring down the business end of Term 2!

Our teachers have been incredibly busy administering assessments and gathering valuable information about your child’s learning progress. While students may think teachers survive purely on coffee and whiteboard markers, there is actually a huge amount of careful observation, planning and data collection happening behind the scenes. This helps us celebrate growth, identify next steps and ensure every student continues to thrive.

A huge shout out to everyone who attended our Salsa Night last Friday following our fantastic Colour Run celebrations (make sure you check out the Colour Run page for all the colourful chaos and success stories!). The hall was alive with music, laughter and enough dancing to rival a grand final halftime show!

A very big thank you to Aggie and our wonderful instructor Lucy for helping make the evening such a huge success. Your energy, enthusiasm and patience with our “interesting” dance moves were greatly appreciated! Don’t miss the next Salsa Night on the 19th of June - start stretching those dancing legs now!

During Reconciliation Week, we were honoured to hold a Smoking Ceremony at our school. A sincere thank you to Sonya for organising for Uncle Trevor to visit and lead this important occasion with our community. It was incredibly moving to see our whole school come together so respectfully and thoughtfully for the ceremony. The atmosphere throughout the morning was one of reflection, learning and connection, and we are proud to share some photos with our community.

In the Classrooms

Foundation

The Foundation students enjoyed a very exciting pizza party in their learning space to celebrate their incredible Colour Run fundraising efforts - each class reached the amazing total of at least $2000! What an achievement!

The celebration also perfectly coincided with Milo’s Birthday Surprise, which links beautifully with our phonics program. Students are introduced to the sounds and letters of the alphabet through memorable characters like Milo the Monkey, Sally the Snake and Peter the Penguin.

1/2 Learning World

Following their excursion to CERES last week, students have been hard at work writing detailed information reports about their experience in English, while in Spanish, students have been building their own neighbourhood texts about theirMi Barrio. It has been wonderful to see students transforming their learning into thoughtful and informative writing pieces.

Teachers have also been busy administering the MOI (Mathematics Online Interview). This one-on-one interview provides teachers with valuable information about each student’s mathematical understanding and learning progress. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their thinking, problem-solving strategies and growing confidence in maths - and yes, there have been plenty of moments where students have amazed their teachers with just how much they know!

3/4 Learning World

Our 3/4 students have been finishing and publishing their information reports on Australian monuments and landmarks. There have been some spectacular pieces of work showcasing both research skills and creativity.

Students have also jumped into the Times Table Rock Stars statewide competition - Victoria Rocks! There has been a lot of rapid-fire multiplication happening across the learning spaces. Let’s just say some students are now answering times tables faster than I can answer my emails!

5/6 Classrooms

The 5/6 students have been focusing on Speaking and Listening in Spanish, conducting interviews about famous people. It has been fantastic to hear students building confidence and fluency.

Adding to the excitement, the students have just received a video from their pen pals in Mexico! Everyone is eagerly waiting to watch and see what messages and experiences the students have shared. What a wonderful opportunity for authentic global connections and learning.

Coming Up

  • Working Bee this Sunday
  • Next week, our 5/6 students will head off on their excursion to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum

Have a fantastic weekend everyone - and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Working Bee on Sunday!
