Our annual secondary Athletics Carnival was held last Thursday, and it was an amazing day of competition, participation, and school spirit. Despite a miserable start to the morning weather-wise, conditions improved throughout the day, and students maintained high spirits, enthusiasm, and energy from start to finish.
Participation across both track and field events was outstanding, with students giving their best efforts and supporting one another throughout the carnival. Competition was strong across all age groups, with several records both set and broken during the day. Official results, including field and track champions and overall house standings, will be announced at an upcoming Gathering Assembly.
A huge thank you goes to all staff and students who helped make the day such a success, whether through organising events, officiating, setting up, packing down, or cheering competitors on. We would also like to thank our food vendors, Rory's Hot Spuds, our administration staff who ran a stall throughout the day, and the Small Brew coffee van for keeping everyone well fed and caffeinated.
Finally, thank you to the parents, carers, and community members who came along to support our students, as well as those who generously volunteered their time to assist throughout the carnival. Your support helped create a positive and memorable day for all involved.

Last Tuesday, our Year 10 students went to Camp Clayton to be a part of the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program. This was an excellent opportunity to hear from a variety of experienced community members, including a police officer and several Rotarians. Students were challenged and encouraged in how they can contribute to society with increased awareness, to be safer drivers and passengers.
Throughout the day, our students engaged in a variety of sessions, focusing on different aspects of driving. Two of these workshops, Road Choices and The 'I' In Drive, focused on the wide range of risks involved in driving, including the influence of personalities, legal and financial risks. Students were able to be involved in role play scenarios where they could explore ways to react to various circumstances and discuss the effect of different responses. The Speed & Stopping session featured a practical demonstration of the stopping distances when braking at different speeds. Our Year 10 students were excellent during the whole day, engaging well with the sessions by participating in discussion, questions and scenarios, along with positively interacting with another school group doing the program. Facilitators from the event praised the way our students got involved. We hope this experience has taught each individual something that will help them in future when they are on the roads.
DCS is excited to be partnering with Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education into Years 11 and 12.
As part of this partnership, families considering Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are warmly invited to attend Leighland Christian School’s 2026 Year 11/12 Subject Information Evening on Monday 15th June.
This informative evening is designed to support students and families as they begin planning for 2027. Throughout the night, families will hear from Leighland staff about subjects available at Leighland, the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), and ATAR pathways. Following the welcome session, the evening will operate in an open-house format, allowing families the opportunity to move freely between subject displays, meet teachers from all learning areas, ask questions, and reflect on their interests, strengths, and goals for the years ahead. The evening will also allow families to gain a clearer understanding of course content, expectations, and future pathways at Leighland.
A tour of the Leighland Christian School will also be available to new families on the night.
The Information Evening will be held in the Multi-Purpose Hall, commencing at 6:30pm and concluding at approximately 8:00pm. To register, scan the QR code below or click here.
We hope that you can attend this event, and please contact the school should you have any questions.
