STUDENT MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
Please be aware of the following procedures for managing medication for students at school.
If your child may occasionally need to take medication at school for an on-going, chronic condition
- Parents must complete a Medication Authority form and give it to the office.
- Medication must be stored in the locked cabinet in the first aid room (students are not to have any medication in their bags such as Claratyne or Zyrtec).
For students with Asthma:
- An Asthma Management Plan must be given to the office.
- Students in Prep to Year 2 are to hand their medication to their teacher and it is kept in the classroom in a dedicated container, clearly marked with the students' name.
- Students in Year 3 to Year 6 are to keep their medication in their bags.
For students that are prescribed medication to be taken daily:
- A Medication Authority form must be completed and signed by the prescribing medical practitioner.
- Medication must be provided in dosage size (i.e. cut into halves etc) and in a day specific plastic container. If the prescription is for 1 tablet it may be given to the office in the box it is issued from the chemist with individual tablets in blister packs.
- A photo of the box which clearly states the dosage prescribed (if medication is not provided to the school in this box). OR a letter from the prescribing medical practitioner confirming the dosage, time and frequency.
