Wellbeing Tips for the Festive Season

Hi Families,

As the school year draws to a close, we’re reflecting on a truly successful Transition Day here at Teesdale PS, where our students took part in a morning designed to help them feel confident and excited about their upcoming year. It was wonderful to see everyone actively engaging in fun and thoughtful activities designed to help build a safe and supportive environment in 2025.

The day was a reminder of the resilience and curiosity that define our students. It was also a time to celebrate the sense of belonging that makes our school so special. From interactive classroom activities to team-building exercises, every moment was crafted to ensure that students felt prepared, supported, and eager for 2025.

As we head into the festive season, we encourage our families to take this opportunity to focus on their own wellbeing. We know that this time of year can be both joyous and demanding, so it’s important to take intentional steps to look after ourselves. Here are a few strategies to help you maintain your wellbeing over the Summer holidays:

1. Prioritise Rest and Recharge

The holidays are the perfect time to slow down and recover from the demands of the school term. Try to schedule moments of rest throughout the day—whether it’s through a quick nap, reading a book, or simply sitting in the sunshine. Remember, it's okay to say no to social events or commitments that feel too overwhelming. Allowing yourself to rest is key to coming back refreshed in the New Year.

2. Stay Active and Engage with Nature

Exercise is a great way to boost mood and energy levels, and the Summer months offer many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. Take family walks, bike rides, or spend time at the beach or park. Connecting with nature not only improves physical health but also promotes mental clarity and reduces stress.

3. Set Boundaries and Focus on Quality Time

The holidays can sometimes bring a lot of social pressure. It’s okay to set boundaries around your time—whether it’s limiting screen time, saying no to certain gatherings, or carving out space for solo activities that nourish you. Spending quality time with close family members or friends can foster deep connections, and moments of genuine relaxation are always more meaningful than trying to please everyone.

5. Nourish Your Body and Soul

Take time to enjoy healthy, nourishing food, and remember that what we eat directly affects how we feel. Use the holiday season to try out new, healthy recipes or enjoy meals together with loved ones. Equally important is feeding your soul—engage in activities that bring you joy, whether that’s reading, creative hobbies, or simply taking time to reflect on the year gone by.

In the hustle and bustle of the festive season, it’s easy to forget that your own wellbeing is just as important as everything else. By focusing on rest, connection, and simple pleasures, you (and our students) will be able to recharge and enter the 2025 school year with renewed energy and a positive mindset.

We’re so grateful for your continued support, and we wish all our families a joyful, restful, and fulfilling holiday season. We look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year of growth, learning, and wellbeing in 2025.
