Music Matters

It has been a very exciting start to the year in Music, with over one in three year 7s taking on an instrument and participating in both the Stringworks and Soundworks Turbo Days. (See student reports below)

All of the ensembles have made excellent starts to the year, with all rehearsals well attended. Can I please emphasise that for these rehearsals to be the most productive, students need to be in the Music Centre ready to play at the start of the rehearsal. For this to happen, they need to be there ten minutes early, helping with the band set up, getting out their folders and warming up their instruments. I understand the effort this takes for morning rehearsals especially, but your coorperation on this is greatly appreciated and will improve the ensembles and the individual’s enjoyment as a result.

This year promises to be another choc-a-block one with lots of performance opportunities.

Our first public performance will be on 29th April for the Schools ANZAC Service at Templestowe Memorial Park. Wind Symphony will perform the National Anthem and other appropriate music starting before 12pm. The service will finish around 1pm.

Soundworks Turbo Day by Shristhi Bipat

In the morning I was nervous and had been overthinking about performing in front of all the grade sevens.

My anxiety was high as I played my clarinet but I knew my classes with Mr. Muddyman would help.  Mr. Muddyman taught us new skills in clarinet classes which helped me remember the notes to play.

Playing clarinet is an opportunity and an adventure that I can't wait to continue my journey with.

As we were playing in front of the grade sevens and my classmates I didn't feel as nervous as I did at the start of the day. I enjoyed playing the songs and showing them what I learned. Hopefully it encourages my peers to play an instrument with us in Soundworks or Stringworks.

I'm so glad I got to get this experience and I hope to learn more on my instrument and improve my skills as the year progresses, thank you for this opportunity.

Soundworks Turbo Day by Mateen Haidar

I feel grateful for being a part of Turbo Day.

The reason why I feel grateful is because it has taught me 3 new things: new songs to play, how to give the best I can and overcoming my fear of doing my first ever public performance!

Thank you again for the opportunity.

Stringworks Turbo Day by Isabelle Farrell

"For turbo day all the students learning string instruments such as cello, viola and violin, spent the day learning to read music sheets, play on the beat, what certain Music words mean and how to play in sync with the rest of the group. We played three songs as well as a practice sheet. At the end of the day we all preformed for the other year 7s. We improved a huge amount and it was lots of fun and over all an extremely enjoyable day."
