Our youngest scientists will be introduced to the STEM room, where they’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore, play, and investigate the world around them. This term, we’re diving into biological sciences, learning to distinguish between living and non-living things through a range of hands-on activities. Students will also discover how science is part of everyday life and explore the basic needs of plants and animals—including air, water, food, and shelter.
Grade 1 - 2
This term, students will explore biological sciences by classifying living things based on observable features. They’ll investigate how different features help plants and animals survive, such as how roots anchor a plant and absorb water and nutrients. Students will also learn how scientists use their senses, tools, and instruments to make careful observations about the world around them.
Grade 3 - 4
Students will take a deeper dive into biological sciences by distinguishing between living, non-living, and once-living things—including fossils! They’ll explore life cycles of plants and animals and uncover the intricate connections within food chains, identifying the roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers in an ecosystem. Through observation and data analysis, students will learn how to recognise patterns and relationships in nature.
Grade 5 - 6
Our senior students will explore biological sciences through the lens of evolution and adaptation. They’ll examine how organisms, including humans, have evolved over time to thrive in different environments. Students will also investigate how habitats have changed throughout history and the impact of these changes on species’ survival. Additionally, they’ll explore how scientific knowledge has evolved over time, leading to groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in the field.
I can’t wait to see the curiosity and enthusiasm our students bring to STEM this term! 🚀🔬🌱
