Learning Community Updates

Year 2 Camp Experience

Today our Year 2 students took part in their Camp Experience. The day was designed to give students a taste of camp while building independence, confidence and teamwork.

We began with a Year Level Assembly before moving into a rotation of activities.

Highlights included a Magic Show with Dazzling Dan, a Silent Disco, Biscuit Decorating, Outdoor Games and a Kahoot quiz challenge. Lunch was shared pizza and Zooper Doopers, which everyone enjoyed together.

Students participated enthusiastically in the activities and demonstrated Care, Collaboration and Commitment.

Year 4 Learning Community

During General Studies this term, the Year 4 students have been learning about our Rights and Responsibilities as citizens in a community.

Here are some of our Rights and Responsibilities.

I have the right to be treated fairly - Alex W

I have the responsibility to listen to my teacher - Sirat K

I have the right to medical care - Ethan A

I have the responsibility to keep the environment clean - Armaan D

I have the right to have a say - Spencer P

I have the responsibility to treat others kindly - Tait R

We completed an activity where we sorted statements under the headings of Rights and Responsibilities. Lots of rich discussions took place where we were able to justify our reasons.

Year 7 & 8 Working on Health

Year 7, 8 and 9 have had a busy term including our Swimming Program during week 5 where students enjoyed a week of intensive swimming lessons at Leisurelink Aquatic Centre in Waurn Ponds. The lessons focused on water safety and confidence and building on students fitness and form. We were lucky enough to have parents help support the program throughout the week.

During Week 5 we had the pleasure of having St John First Aid in Schools attend and run an in-school-activity for students. Students learnt the importance of how to identify an emergency, assessing for Danger, checking for a Response and Sending to help and how to place someone in the Recovery position. Students had a great time practicing recovery positions and even putting some staff into the position!

The Action Never Stops In ASDAN!

This term the Year 11-12 ASDAN students have been working on getting out and about in the community. We independently caught public transport to the cinema, ordered a hot drink at a local café and had lunch at Cockatoo.

Our independence and work related skills are growing by the day with our weekly Woolworths shopping experience as well as delivering pamphlets for Armstrong Creek Real Estate as part of Year 10 work experience.

Some of our lucky students even went on the adventure of a lifetime last week, carving up the slopes at the Ski Camp at Mount Baw Baw.
