GEOGRAPHY

This term we have replaced studying history with geography. In this unit, we have been investigating Australia’s neighbouring countries and their diverse characteristics. We have located Australia’s neighbouring countries on a map and examined the human and natural features of these countries. We then compared the features of these countries with what we have in Barraba.

SCIENCE

The science task of building a bridge and testing it to see if it has the correct dimensions and how much weight it can carry was finally completed in Thursday’s lesson. A great variety of designs and methods were adopted.

RELIGION

In religion we listened to and discussed the story of the poor widow who gave away everything she had for others. Some insightful comments and shared thoughts provided an opportunity to consider the act of giving.

We appreciated all those that attended our mass on Friday and always understand when family or friends can’t make it.

SPELLING

This week in our spelling program we learned some tips for spelling some tricky words. Understanding why they are tricky to begin with and then a tip to remember how to spell them. For example: tomorrow is made up of three words: tom-or-row. Surprise - how it is spelled is a surprise, ‘ur’ instead of ‘ir’ could be remembered by saying to yourself - U R surprised! Also it is a surprise that it has an ‘s’ instead of a ‘z’. We’ve had some fun thinking about spelling in this way.
