School News

Dear Families,
We have come to the end of another busy fortnight at Galilee, filled with exciting learning experiences, vibrant community events and wonderful opportunities for our students to shine and share their many gifts and talents. We also have lots of exciting events and activities to look forward to in the weeks ahead.
‘Galilee at the Disco’ our Upcoming School Concert
We are getting very excited for our upcoming school concert. The students have been practicing their routines and are very excited to show you their dancing skills in two weeks time. Performing Arts is an important aspect of what we offer at Galilee. We believe that a strong Performing Arts program in Primary School helps children develop confidence, creativity and communication skills from a young age. Through activities like drama, music and dance, students learn to express themselves, work as part of a team and understand different perspectives. We believe that Performing Arts plays a key role in nurturing well-rounded, confident and socially aware individuals.

Galilee Garden Gala Parent Night and Major Fundraiser
We are thrilled to announce that our recent gala raised an incredible $30,000! A huge thank you to Jenn, Kara, Sarah, Rachel and Chrissie for their fantastic efforts in organizing and running the event. We also extend our gratitude to James Nicolaou Real Estate, our generous sponsors, supporters and families whose contributions made this possible. Stay tuned to see how these funds will be used to enhance the outdoor play space, creating an even better environment for our students to enjoy!
Celebrating Fathers’ Day
Next week, we will be celebrating Fathers’ Day at Galilee! This is a special time to acknowledge the important role that fathers, father figures and other significant adults play in the lives of our students.
We recognise that families come in many different forms and that not every child has a father or father figure. Our celebrations aim to be inclusive, focusing on gratitude, love and the special connections that support our students.
Throughout the week, students will have opportunities to create cards, visit the gift stall and participate in the liturgy that celebrates the important adults in their lives. We encourage all students to participate in ways that feel meaningful and comfortable for them.
We look forward to celebrating the people who nurture, guide and support our students every day!
Reflecting on Book Week 2025
Book Week 2025 was a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity and imagination across our school. Students and staff embraced the week with enthusiasm, enjoying Monday’s dress-up day and parade hosted by Miss Greenan, visits from authors Idan Ben-Barack and Ingrid Laguna and engaging classroom activities about the nominated books. Many students submitted fabulous competition entries and winners will be announced next week.
The event provided opportunities for students to explore new stories, share their love of reading with peers and develop a deeper appreciation for literature.
We thank our students, teachers and families for supporting such a vibrant and successful Book Week. Moments like these remind us of the joy that reading brings and its power to connect us all.
Galilee Athletics Squad at Dendy Athletics Competition
Last Friday, our Galilee Athletics Squad proudly represented our school at the Dendy District Athletics Competition, competing against other Catholic schools in the Bayside area. We were incredibly impressed by their athletic abilities, determination and outstanding sportsmanship. Every student gave their best effort and showed wonderful school spirit by cheering each other on throughout the day.
Many of our students received ribbons for their events, with some now progressing to the next level of competition later this year. Congratulations to all students on their fantastic performances.
A big thank you to the parents who volunteered and came along to support and to Mr. Greene, Mr. Kelly, Mr. Bidmade and Mrs. Burns for their support on the day.
The Sacrament of Confirmation
This term, our Year 6 students have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, an important milestone in their faith journey. Through class discussions, prayer and reflection, they have deepened their understanding of the Holy Spirit and what it means to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. As part of their preparation, the students attended a Reflection Day at St. Patrick’s Cathedral this week, where they rehearsed for the Sacrament, took part in a guided tour of the Cathedral and joined the daily Mass. We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with them, their families and our parish community next week. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Please keep our candidates in your prayers as they take this meaningful step in their spiritual lives
MAV Maths Competition Days
Recently, selected students from Year 3 - Year 6 have represented our school at the MAV Maths Games Day competitions. Held by the Mathematical Association of Victoria, this exciting event has brought together students from schools across the region to engage in a series of challenging and collaborative maths activities. Our teams worked enthusiastically through problem-solving tasks, strategy games and mathematical puzzles, demonstrating excellent teamwork, persistence and critical thinking. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to extend their mathematical thinking in a fun and competitive environment. Well done to all students involved on their impressive efforts and positive attitude throughout the day! Thank you to Mr. Webster, our Maths Leader for organising for our students to participate in these days.
School Closure Day Tomorrow 29th August
Tomorrow, Friday 29th August, is a student free school closure day at Galilee. GOSH, our out of hours provider is open all day. Please book your child in using the Theircare website if you wish to use this service.
Tomorrow staff will be having a Time in Lieu day. Under the most recent Employee Agreement teachers in Victorian schools are entitled to Time in Lieu (TIL) when required to attend duties outside of their normal working hours. This includes events such as school camps, after-hours meetings, out of hours parent information sessions or concerts. Tomorrow has been allocated to compensate staff for their attendance at out of hours events and activities.
