Dear Parents,
We congratulate Mrs Lambropoulos on the arrival of baby, Leo. He has come into the world a little earlier than expected and is spending some time in the hospital as he does a little more growing and is looked after by the doctors and nurses in the NICCU. Please keep Mrs Lambropoulos, her family and Leo in your prayers.
We are currently in the period of Ordinary Time in the Liturgical year. The vestments worn by the priests are green, a symbol of growth. At St Martha's we are so proud of the way our students are growing in their faith and in their learning. During Ordinary Time we encourage the students to reflect on their growth and how they live out their faith. This week we received a message from the Kids Giving Back charity to let us know that three of our students have been volunteering to help those in need.
The following students joined over 1300 young changemakers who prepared and delivered more than 11 500 meals, snack packs, and care packages, along with heartfelt notes of encouragement for those in need. Together, they supported 15 Sydney charities! Congratulations to Savannah F., Shanaya S. and Lucas B. for their generosity in giving their time and effort to help others. For details on how you can give back see the Kids Giving Back page.
Research shows that young people who volunteer build stronger social connections, better wellbeing, and a sense of belonging. Our students embodied all of this, and we are so proud to see them leading with heart. They are certainly growing in Ordinary Time.
It has come to our attention that students across many schools are waking in the early hours of the morning to access games online. Influencers promise special rewards for those who access their accounts at particular times. Students are then coming to school tired and cannot focus on their learning. A quick survey of our students indicates that an alarming number of our students are engaging in these very early morning online activities. Please ensure that your children do not have access to devices in their rooms overnight. Monitor their online behaviour carefully. Please see the Australian Government e-Safety Commissioner website for advice. Don't think this does not apply to your children!
Next week we celebrate Fathers' Day. Mum's, don't forget to send some money with your children on Monday, for the Fathers' Day Stall. Many thanks to those who are helping with this event. On Wednesday morning we look forward to seeing all the Dads, Grandfathers and Father like figures at our Fathers' Day Breakfast and Prayer Celebration. Gates open at 7:30am. It is a special opportunity for us to celebrate all our Fathers. I look forward to another joy-filled event. Please RSVP on the Fathers' day page.
As the weather heats up children shed their jackets and often leave them where they took them off. Please ensure that your children's clothes are clearly labelled so that if they are left behind we can return them to the right owners. Many jackets purchased from the 2nd hand uniform shop still have the original owners names on them. Please also ensure your child has a water bottle and that it is clearly marked with their name. It is important to remain hydrated in the hot weather. Our lost property basket is often overflowing with jackets and bottles! Please label everything!
Peace and best wishes,
Carolyn Parsell
