Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
HPS Senior Recorder Ensemble
Congratulations to members of the HPS Senior Recorder Ensemble and their wonderful teacher, Fiona Walters, for not only representing the school in the Primary School Age Recorder Ensemble section at RECORDARAMA, a mini eisteddfod (music festival) just for recorders held at MLC in Kew but for being awarded the first-place trophy!
ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO..... until the annual HPS Disco!
Excitement is building and final preparations are being put in place for next Friday's HPS Disco. Book your place to attend via Compass Events before they close on Wednesday.
Don't forget the parent event being held next door at the bowling club. While your child/ren attend their allocated disco time, you may like to mingle and get to know some other HPS families.
What a fun-filled opportunity for our community to gather and enjoy. Thank you to the organising team and their band of volunteers and helpers for making this happen.
Outside Breaks
We know that space in the yard is at a premium at the moment due to the building works. To support this we have a number of strategies in place. This includes the fabulous and engaging Enrichment Clubs at every break across the week. Students are encouraged to look at the roster and see which fun activities they'd like to join. Could it be Art Wellbeing or Coding that interest you? What about Lego or Jewellery Making? Why not try something new, build upon your skills and maybe even meet new people by going along to an Enrichment Club next week!
We also have a roster for the oval and 9 square game that supports all students to have a chance at playing games in those areas. Additional staff out in the busy areas of the school during break times provide support to students and ensure a safe and respectful environment is maintained.
Today some Year 4 students took the lead at Hip Hop Club! Well done on demonstrating your leadership skills along with your dance moves!! We can't wait to see these moves on the dance floor at the HPS Disco.
Upcoming Building Works
- landings, stair posts and concrete path around Relocatable's
- installation of stair entry to temp toilets
- removal of required trees **Note- 2 trees planted for every one removed
- VSBA Community Signboard to be positioned on Cape St fence
Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025. All families are invited to participate in the survey.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out for survey guides in your language if required.
More info and the link to the survey will be sent out via Compass on Monday.
Camp Survey Results
Thank you to all who provided feedback regarding our current overnight camping program. The perspectives and opinions provided help us to look at what is working well and where we could adapt and make changes to meet the needs and purpose for all stakeholders.
There were some great ideas and initiatives provided that will be taken into consideration for moving forward.
There will still be overnight camp opportunities at HPS into the future so those who are passionate and excited about going away can breathe easy. Staff and leadership will use this data to make our decisions and will share with the community once finalised.
