Year 5/6 Hoop Time

Year 5/6 Hoop Time Basketball Competition
On Thursday August 28th, 40 eager students attended the Year 5/6 Hoop Time competition at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. With five different schools competing (we were obviously the best!), it was a fun and challenging experience for everyone.
The students all tried their best, and some teams even won a few games, but most importantly, everyone had fun.
A special congratulations goes to the Future Star Boys, who came first in their division! Overall, we loved the experience and had a fantastic day. Below are some reflections from the teams.
Future Star Girls (Grace, Jacquie, Tanesha, Paige, Alieshia, Iris, Niraliya and Rachel)
When we played our first match against Jells Park, the intensity was insane! We were all hyped up and really wanted to win. At first we were nervous, but as the game went on we grew more confident and ended up winning 8 – 4.
Even though we lost the other games, we never gave up and still had so much fun. The experience of going to Hoop Time was thrilling, challenging, intense, but also exciting. We met lots of new people and pushed through tough moments.
We only won one game and lost three, but we accomplished so much as a team. Next year, Hoop Time will definitely be the event we sign up for, and you should too!
All Star Girls (Alyssa, Izzi, Aliya, Lucy, Venya, Gayani, Hunar and Christina)
At Hoop Time, we played against older, stronger, and more experienced teams. Toward the end it was tough because many of the players were bigger than us, but we gave it everything we had.
Even though we didn’t win any of our matches, there were still lots of highlights. We worked together, encouraged each other, and played with determination. Some games were really close, and we kept fighting until the final whistle.
One of the best parts was cheering from the bench and supporting our teammates on the court. We learned how important teamwork is, not just in scoring, but in passing, defending, and backing each other up.
Although we lost all of our games, we never gave up. We supported each other, worked hard, and still had a great time. Next year we are determined to try out again, work even better as a team, and do our best!
Future Star Boys (Kenneth, Josh, Ryan G, Alex, Leon, Aryan, Onal and Ryan X)
On the Court: We arrived at Nunawading Basketball Centre at 9:15am, buzzing with excitement. Everyone was talking, shouting, and getting pumped up for the day. Our first game was against Essex Heights at 10:10am, and it was intense, but we pulled through with confidence and won!
Next, we played Mount Scopus at 11:10am. We thought it would be an easy win, but the game was tougher than expected. At the final second we were down 9–11, but one of our teammates scored on the buzzer to tie the game.
Finally, we played Mount Waverley at 11:50am. If we won, we’d make the finals, and we did! After a hard-fought battle, we secured our spot.
In the final, we faced Mount Waverley Waves. We gave it everything, but just lost by 3 points.
Off the Court: Whenever someone needed a rest, we subbed off and cheered our lungs out from the sidelines. It was noisy — really noisy — but we loved every moment of it!
Rookies (Ethan D, Rithik, Sid, Ethan L, Carys, Tanvi, Trithi and Josephine)
On August 28th, the Rookies played against Mount Waverley PS, Mount Scopus, and Jells Park PS. The intensity was high and everyone was nervous. As soon as the ball went up, the crowd roared with excitement.
One of the highlights was when the ball circled the ring, and everyone held their breath, then the winning shot was made! We all jumped up and down in celebration. Overall, the Rookies won 2 games and lost 1. It was an amazing day, and we can’t wait to play again next year.
All Star Boys (Advay, Jayden, Mac, Bari, Rhys, Ethan A, James and Kayden)
On the Court: The All Star Boys had their first match at 9:30 against Mount Waverley Primary School. We were nervous at the start, but the cheering from our teammates helped us shake it off. We played with spirit and determination, but ended up losing by 3 points.
Off the Court: One of the best parts of the day was being able to watch and cheer for all the other BEPS teams — Future Star Girls and Boys, Rookies, and All Star Girls. Supporting each other made the day even more special.
Hoop Time was an unforgettable day of fun, teamwork, and basketball. Every student showed resilience, courage, and school spirit. Thank you to the teachers, parents, and supporters who made this day possible — we can’t wait for next year!
