Mandarin Newsletter – Week 6 Term 3 2025

Junior Level

In Term 3, the Prep classes have been learning the vocabulary for naming different body parts. We have also explored lots of famous nursery rhymes and action songs in Mandarin, and enjoyed singing and dancing to the music while learning a language! The Year 1/2 classes have been learning to name their family members in Mandarin, and we have also started to build up our basic understanding of Chinese characters through some simple reading and writing practices.

Middle Level

Students from Year 3/4 classes have been actively practicing their functional language, and we are focusing on learning the vocabulary and expressions around shopping in this term. We are also further developing our knowledge of how to use pinyin to spell out the pronunciations of different Mandarin words, as well as recognising the common Chinese characters.

Senior Level

Extended from our previous learning on expressions around traveling, students in Year 5/6 have been exploring the topic of countries and continents. We had a lot of fun working in small groups learning about geography as well while practicing our language skills in Mandarin. Through some writing practices we have completed over the past few weeks, it is also great to see how our senior students have improved a lot with their understanding of Chinese character structures.
