Young Leaders Excursion

On Tuesday, all of the grade 5 students went on a young leaders day excursion at the Hawthorn Arts Centre and we had a lot of fun and other schools came!
We did 3 activities and the first one was split into 3 parts. The first one was to build what we want to see more of in our neighbourhood out of lego and I built an electric charging station. The next activity was to draw and write what things we would like to do on the school holidays and I drew a paintball tournament with a $1k cash prize. The last activity was to make a library poster out of A.I. and include things we want to see in a library like a podcast area or more types of books.
The next thing was recess but that isn’t really important.
The actual next task we did was a ‘leader values’ activity, the task was to list your 5 most important values as a leader and make a personal ‘value shield’. I was impressed with my shield and I think the traits represent me well.
Then we had lunch which was fun. There was giant chess, giant connect 4 and mini bowling. But that’s not really important.
The final activity that we did was African drumming. African drumming was the most fun one (in my opinion) and we learnt about African music and how they were made! We learnt various techniques like using your palm to hit the middle or to use your fingers on the edge. After we finished, our hands were really sore.
In conclusion, the excursion was really fun. The people working there might take our feedback and change the community in a positive way! - Oscar M. 5D
