From the Principal

Mr Damian Messer

As we move through August, our College community continues to shine, embracing meaningful moments that reflect our shared values and achievements.

Celebrating Catholic Education Week

Last week, we celebrated Catholic Education Week, with a highlight being the beautiful Mass held at St Mary’s Cathedral on 7 August. Students and staff from Catholic schools across the south came together in a spirit of unity and faith to mark this special occasion. Thank you to our students for representing the College with such grace and respect at this special event.

Staff recognition | 25 Years of Service Awards

We are proud to share that at the Catholic Education Commission Tasmania Recognition Awards last Thursday, St Mary's College staff members, Mrs Kate Lakos and Mr Scott Weston were honoured with the CET Staff Recognition Award for 25 years of dedicated service. Congratulations to both for their outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to Catholic education.

Archbishop's Installation

This week, we were honoured to witness the Archbishop’s installation, held yesterday at St Mary’s Cathedral. This significant event marks a new chapter for our diocese and reminds us of our place within the broader Catholic community.

Mini Winter Festival

On 8 August, the spirit of togetherness continued at our Mini Winter Festival, which saw more than 500 guests flock to the College Green for a night under the stars. It was wonderful to see students, staff and families enjoying the festivities, creating memories and strengthening the bonds that make our school such a vibrant place to learn and grow. You can read more about this event, and enjoy more photos, in this edition of The Fountain: College Life – Latest News.

Year 7–10 Learning Conferences

Additionally, please note that our Year 7–10 Learning Conferences will take place on Thursday 21 August, from 1.30pm until 7.00pm. These conferences offer an important opportunity for families and teachers to connect, discuss student progress and set goals for the remainder of the year. I encourage all families to book a time and participate in these valuable conversations.

Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm. Together, we continue to make our school a place of excellence, celebration and community spirit.
