It was lovely to catch up with so many families during our Term 3 Parent/Carer Teacher Interviews this week. We had a slightly different format this semester with interviews occurring earlier and over two afternoons. We thank you all for making the time during your day to come in and discuss your child(ren)’s progress. Please know, if at any point in time you would like to meet with your child(ren)’s classroom teacher this can be arranged by speaking with the teacher directly or making contact via Compass.

As always we welcome any feedback regarding this different structure to enable these to fit within our school’s hours of attendance. If you wish to provide any feedback on the structure, you can come and see me directly or email the school at  fyans.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au 

Fyans Park Christmas Fair

Many of you who attended our Parent/Carer Teacher Interviews this week were reminded of our Christmas Fair survey, and to vote for how funds raised this year could be used to benefit our school. Whilst this was also posted on Compass, we know people are busy and may not have had the chance to complete this. We will keep the survey open for the weekend to allow everyone the opportunity to have their thoughts included.

If you have already completed the survey and indicated you have contact with a local business, can help organise an activity, have a trestle table/marquee etc., a number of results don’t include a name, email or phone number. If this might be you, we ask you to reach out to Jo Rix so we can connect you with the right people...

Sporting Achievements, Representing Victoria - Best wishes to Henry and Clair!

All the best wishes to Henry, 56L as he heads off to Canberra to represent Team Vic in the Australian Football Championships next week.

Congratulations to Clair, 56L, who has been selected in the Victorian Cross Country Team to compete at the National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat on the 22nd of August 2026.

We look forward to hearing updates as these two students battle the other states in their chosen sports.

Upgrade to Garden on Ormskirk Street

Currently, we have some works being undertaken to upgrade the garden along the fence line on Ormskirk Street. This area also includes the entrance to the Fyans Park Tennis Club and we would like to remind families that children are asked to not play in this space before, during or after school. 

Anyone wanting to access the tennis courts and basketball courts from the Prep Playground are reminded that the stairs, near the sandpit, are the best point of access. 

Book Week Celebrations at FPPS – Symphony of Stories

We're looking forward to celebrating CBCA Children's Book Week across Weeks 6 and 7 with this year's theme, Symphony of Stories. Throughout our celebrations, we'll be recognising the power of books in bringing people together, sparking imagination and nurturing a lifelong love of reading.

As our swimming program coincides with the nationally recognised Book Week dates, FPPS will begin celebrations a little earlier, kicking off on Friday 21 August (Week 6).

Friday 21 August – Book Week Dress-Up, Parade & Cosy Corner

Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character or inspired by a much-loved story. Families are welcome to join us for our Book Week Parade at 9:15 am.

This year, our much-loved Cosy Corner comes with a twist. From 2:45 pm, students will welcome a special person (parent, grandparent, or other significant adult) to their classroom to enjoy a hot chocolate while sharing a favourite book together.

Lunchtime Book Week Activities – Week 7 (24–28 August)

The celebrations continue throughout Week 7 with a range of lunchtime activities in the Hub.

Monday – Bookmark Studio: Design and create a bookmark inspired by your favourite stories.

Tuesday – Character Colouring Club: Bring beloved book characters to life through colour.

Wednesday – Finish the Story: Let your imagination take centre stage by writing the next chapter or creating a brand-new ending.

Thursday – Puzzle Club: Challenge yourself with a variety of book-themed puzzles, games and brain teasers.

We can't wait to celebrate another fabulous Book Week!

Dogs in Schools

Recently, we have noticed an increase of families bringing pet dogs to school at drop off and pick up times. Our Dogs in Schools policy on the website is well due for review, however the content remains relatively unchanged. 

Whilst Fyans Park Primary School understands that many families in our school community keep dogs as pets, to ensure that our school remains a safe and inclusive place for everyone, pet dogs are not permitted on school grounds before, during and immediately after school hours.

Our school community is diverse, and may include people that are allergic or uncomfortable around dogs. We are also conscious of the health hazards that may be posed by dogs. We ask that families please leave their pet dogs at home when attending our school and for school events.

Fyans Park Primary School recognises that many of our families use the school facilities on the weekend and in these cases, dogs will be permitted on school grounds. We have in place a number of rules that we expect all families to follow if they wish to bring their pet dog onto school grounds on weekends.

• pet dogs must be leashed at all times and in the control of a responsible adult
• pet dogs must not be tied up on school grounds or left unaccompanied
• please respect our school and students by picking up after your dog

Please note, the above applies only to ‘pet’ dogs, not assistance dogs.

Parking

We have had reports from neighbouring residents, particularly from the school-end of Cook Street, of parents continually parking across and/or impeding access to driveways. 

We again ask all parents and carers to be aware and respectful of our neighbours when collecting students from school.
